My great-grandmother Margaret born 6 September 1870, died 9 November 1956.

I was 6 when she died. I remember her sitting up in bed, wearing a nightgown with lace around the neck.

She used to read tea-leaves :-) <3

Paternal grandparents...George. 1871-1945
Jessie1872-1947
Maternal grandparent Annie 1884-1960
Granddad died aged 28 when mum was a baby, had a step granddad born 1888...Albert died 1962.

My avatar is my maternal great grandma who married at 19 to my g granddad who was 20 years older than her...she had 13 children and when he died she married a man with 12 more...OK some had left home by then, but my gran had to stay at home and help her mother with washing etc and they had at least 2 sittings for meals...and some had to sleep like sardines head to foot......those were the days...wish I'd known her she died on Christmas Eve 1923.I have her commemorative ribbon.

Well I don't remember my grandfather Christopher Joseph 'Buzz' Busby who was born Chipping Norton 1884. He died December 1960 when I was about a year old.

Otherwise it would have to be my paternal grandfather Laurence Polson (should be Poleson) born Marrister, Whalsay, Shetland Isles July 1900. Next oldest would be paternal grandmother Agnes Mole Doyle b South Shields 1904.

I've just realised. I met maternal grandfather's brother and his wife around 1970 ish. So that was Charles Edward Busby b Aston Sep 1/4 1889 and Josephine Slack born Derby around the same time I think. I have a lovely photograph taken in the back garden of the parents' house when they were over from Canada. I was about twelve and totally fascinated by this wonderful couple. Aunt Jose wore a bright trouser suit and they were happy and cheerful and showed love and emotion; everything my own family didn't believe in. I just remember that they never stopped smiling.

Just asking hubby this question. Back later when we've worked it out.

My gt grandmother was born 1872 and died in 1970, outliving several of her children. She was a lively old dear and danced at my wedding in 1963.

I think my mil (95 on 3 Jan) will dance on my grave :-( :-(

It is amazing for so many to have known people who were quite old when the dear old Queen died in 1901. "Old" in the sense that when I was 7, my mother was 28 and I thought the dear old girl was very old and did not have much time left in this world. :-D :-D

When we went through stuff from her house when my gt aunt died found pictures of her when she was younger and able to walk etc told dad didnt remember her like that wasnt until we found a picture of her in her wheelchair on holiday that I said thats my Great Gran.

My Grampy was born 1904 -1996 there was a big thing when he married my Gran as he was only 11 years younger than her mum (above) Nan was born 1919 - 2008.

I think I'll hold the record so far on this thread - my great-grandmother 1846-1942. I remember what I think were teas on Sunday once a month - her youngest daujghter was her carer. That dates me of course - an expectant great-grandmother myself!

My maternal great grandmother, Margaret Bone, born 1873. She died in 1954, when I was 5 years old, and I once got into trouble for nearly tipping her out of her rocking chair! She was only 4ft 9 inches tall: I still have her wedding ring - it won't even go anywhere near my little finger.
