~Lynda~ Report 10 Oct 2012 14:08

The head stone had only been there three weeks, and as you say Sue the family have had it destroyed, which before anything has been proven is a big decision, unless of course they know the outcome already? I feel for the family, if they had no knowledge of his dark secret.

I don't know if anybody else heard on Radio 5 live this morning, Nicky Campbell, spoke to Liz Kershaw, and she spoke of her abuse while at the BBC, she said that Nicky Campbell and her, went together to the BBC, when it was going on, and nothing was done, but she is now being interviewed as part of the J S inquiry, although it was not him who molested her.

Also there is a connection with JS, he was implicated in Haut de la Garenne children's home scandal

A patient from Stoke Stoke Mandeville, also spoke she said that JS had a room where people were chosen to go in. The whole thing is spiralling now, you just wonder where it will stop :-(

JoyDean Report 10 Oct 2012 14:13

I feel for Jimmy Savile's family and friends and respect the family for its decision to remove the gravestone.
"The triple headstone was removed from Woodlands Cemetery overnight to avoid a "circus" and will now be destroyed, funeral director Robert Morphet said.
Mr Morphet, from Joseph A Hey and Son, said Savile's family had made the decision to remove the gravestone because of "the impact the stone remaining there could have on the dignity and sanctity of the cemetery".

aivlyS Report 10 Oct 2012 14:23

OMG .... that is not right that any hospital allowed him in a room alone with any child in their care ........... seems a lot are to blame ..

Julia Report 10 Oct 2012 14:29

But if no one knew what he was doing, or even suspected, then there would be no reason for this to be stopped. So, how can they be held accountable.
Now if someone did have an inkling, and had not spoken out, well that is a different kettle of fish altogether.

Island Report 10 Oct 2012 14:31

Sadly, many people think celebrities can do no wrong and are happy to go along with the public face.

aivlyS Report 10 Oct 2012 14:33

It should not of happened .. these people cannot do these things if the oppurtunity is not there , also a member of staff did say they were uncomfortable with it , and when they knew he was coming that day they used to discuss who would be the chosen one that day .

Kay???? Report 10 Oct 2012 19:21

well who ever drove JS about must have had some inkling about him as JS didnt drive.

also his SM hospital work was done with only him involved or him and his agent........the Beep were not involved.

Everything linked to his name needs removing,

what about the the cash he raised for charities, wont they want to give it all away and not have anything that involved that man?.

JoyBoroAngel Report 10 Oct 2012 20:14

seams a lot of people should be ashamed of turning a blind eye :-(

supercrutch Report 10 Oct 2012 21:03

Even if the charities could find the £40m he raised who would they give it to? They are struggling to keep themselves afloat. Plus you cannot deconstruct wards or return equipment.

Wend Report 10 Oct 2012 21:21

It's a case of good and evil in my opinion.

The £40m he raised is the only good thing that came out of this horrible man's life.
Let's hope it's saved and helped the lives of many people and continues to do so.

As for the evil, it is now being exposed and let's also hope that those who suffered because of it can now get the help they may need, if not closure.

Sharron Report 10 Oct 2012 21:35

I would think this would be the end of a lot of years of isolation and loneliness for the victims each of whom probably thought they were the only one.

JoyBoroAngel Report 10 Oct 2012 22:36

now a man has come forward saying he was abused aged 9 :-(

supercrutch Report 11 Oct 2012 00:49

No to the first question and can you explain the second comment and is it Freddy Starr?

**Ann** Report 11 Oct 2012 01:04

These allegations against JS have been made before. An Irish radio station interviewed him 5 years ago and asked him outright had he been messing around with young girls etc. He denied all allegations. I think the interview with Louis Theroux is quite revealing.........also Esther Rantzen on Tv this week speaks volumes.....I bet there are a few more people quaking in their boots at the moment.

Kay???? Report 11 Oct 2012 06:25

The more news about this man leaves me cold.

JustJohn Report 11 Oct 2012 08:42

I have always liked Jimmy Savile. One of the characters of my generation, he has been an excellent entrepreneur, an excellent communicator and made huge amounts of money since escaping from the coal mines and has devoted his life to charity and been awarded a Doctor of Law, and many other honours.

A very good friend of mine was his personal assistant in 1970's and flew over from his home in India for the funeral and gave interviews for television lauding Jimmy.

I met this gentleman at church when I was on holiday in India and get on with him really well. He is a loquacious bachelor in his 60's who never stops talking about his life, and he has so many stories about pop stars and personalities of that era. Jimmy he loves, Hughie Green he detests. He knew Jimmy from the earliest days because he had a pop group that appeared at Jimmy's first club and later he was a DJ on the Manchester scene and nationally he would deputise for Jimmy if he was ill or had other engagements. He speaks very freely of his time with Jimmy and never once has had a bad word to say about him.

I wrote to him when Jimmy died and said how sorry I was for him and Jimmy's many friends and family. I do not feel able to write to him now. And I have no idea what I am going to say next time we meet. He must have known. :-( :-(

supercrutch Report 11 Oct 2012 10:34

He was awarded an HONORARY Doctorate by Leeds University, this is why:

He also sponsored medical students at the University of Leeds to perform undergraduate research in the Leeds University Research Enterprise scholarship scheme (known as LURE), donating over £60,000 every year.[61] In 2010 the scheme was extended with a commitment of £500,000 over the following five years.

There is always more behind the story than the headline.

Sharron Report 11 Oct 2012 10:38

He deserved a doctorate alright. Clever or what. Well crafty!

JustJohn Report 11 Oct 2012 10:50

The only thing that disturbed me about my friend (who was very close to Jimmy Savile in 1965-75 period) was that he would use expressions like "have fun". Why don't you come down the gym and have a massage and some fun?"

I never went, because I like being miserable. But I have wondered last couple of weeks if that was what these showbusiness types said to justify behaviour that so shocks us. Whether it was in their minds that they were celebrities, giving pleasure to many, having "fun" themselves.

Such a difficult area. The April Jones case im Machynlleth in Mid Wales is so sensitive, with many saying the man accused must have a fair trial, don't speculate, don't upset family. And yet here are Jimmy Savile and his close friends being hauled over the coals on here with lots of speculative comments - and they will never get a fair trial.

Because the main person accused is dead and has no right of reply.

Julia Report 11 Oct 2012 10:54

JOHN, Where are you coming from with all this. What are you really up to. 'Cause sure as hell your up to something.
