Hi Julia,
Yes i do most of my reading in bed. Sometimes til 3/4 oclock in morning,as am a poor sleeper.!!!!! Also get through an enormous amount of books.!

Usually with duvet right up to neck and around ears., and on really cold night such as last night, frost, had a hot water bottle. Which i prefer to electric blanket, as it lasts a long time.!!

Like all of you I read in bed, have purchased a hug light which goes round your neck, and is great, OH doesn't complain about the brightness of the light !! As for being cold, I use a pashmina round my arms and shoulders. works a treat . I wouldn't be seen dead in a bedjacket :-D

Strangely, although I feel the cold more than some, these days I am quite warm at night, sometimes even hot. That is since we had the mattress topper. We have a light duvet over a sheet (which is always untucked at night. (otherwise it is too much of a fight to get out for the loo!). The window is open except on the coldest nights mid winter. I do wear PJs, the short sleeved top and cropped trousers type. Our heating goes off at 10-10.30 and comes on at 7am.

Morning Sharron, I have heard of that before.

George, I am a pensioner, you know. I have the heat on alot during the day, but could not afford to have it on through the night. And it gets pretty nippy here in Derbyshire. We had a frost again last night.

Well it was pretty chilly here in Norwich last evening and that's Norfolk - already have a large wool blanket over the top of the duvet so it falls to the ground either side and stops draughts (and stops o.h. pulling duvet too far over his side lol)
Next stop will be the flannalette top sheet under the duvet - makes it so much more snug and if it gets really cold later on this year the 15tog duvet will go on instead of the 10.5 one we have now. It's only a double bed, o.h.'s bedrooms are small so a kingsize wouldn't fit due to the extra lenght they have, but we always get a kingsize duvet to allow extra cover.

Pjs and bedsocks for me and even o.h. has taken to wearing pjs since he became diabetic, he feels the cold more now.

Mind you this house doesn't have central heating so is not as warm as some homes.

I don't read in bed but do the crossword and Sudoku every night before hopefully dropping off - usually with pen still in hand and glasses at a rakish angle :-)

Cannot bear to have the heating on at night and still need to keep one foot out as a cooling device - by the morning both feet are out

If I do wear jammie bottoms they are up around my knees by morning (very baggy to accommodate)

Probably of an age when I should be feeling the chill and well past night sweats :-(
So guess I am one of the lucky ones or kept warm by bulk alone

cold?

No! it was 25C here yesterday. Had the ceiling fan on last night.

It can get cool in winter....... so the doona/duvet is around my ears, one hand out of the covers, holding my Kindle (Kindle has a light, so I don't disturb OH).

Wait for a few weeks, I'll be complaining about the humidity.

:-D

Blimey! It hasn't turned really cold yet! Well, not in Norfolk, anyway, still have the window open at night , use a 4.5 tog quilt, and sleep in the altogether. Have been known to close the window when it gets below minus 4c, but the cat doesn't like it. I also read a lot in bed, but never a Kindle, not for a retired librarian!

Why don't you just put the heating on in the bedroom if your cold.?

George :-)

I read in bed every night and sometimes in the middle of the night.Someone mentioned shoving arms in dressing gown sleeves.I do that if it is really chilly. Now I have a Kind** it is easier than holding a book and turning pages.I have a light on the `kindl* so I don't disturb OH too much(although he still has a moan ) I just give him a gentle kick and say"Turn Over" ....He does as he is told

I may make bedsocks to match, and after reading Kay's post, fingerless gloves
(so as I can turn me pages over).

Well Island, that pattern I sent you, and you said it was too 'bedjackety', I made five for the children, but embroidered them up. They look lovely as cardigans/jackets.
It goes up to adults, and is so easy and quick. Might give it a go, in suitable boodwah colours. LOLOL
Jumbob's certainly had a winter warmer somewhere. LOLOL
