Hi Dutch, keep focused and think positively that the proceedures will help to get you sorted and you can then begin to feel a whole lot better. Gentle hugs. Gxx

Suzanne Report 1 Dec 2012 22:58

dont worry about the procedure Dutch,as ive said my dad had that done six months ago,he has serious heart problems,a by-pass,angiplasty three times and two heart attacks(and he still went back to work) your degenerative disc problems are common and wont make the procedure any worse than it is for anyone else that goes through it. :-)

Hi Dutch,
I don't normally post, but thought of something that might make you smile. One time my OH had to have the two procedures done on the same day. I was with him in the doctors office for the discussion. My OH told the doc. that if he was going to use the same tube, would he please do the top first. The doctor grinned and said "I'M the doctor - I'LL decide!
I've had many colonoscopies, and I always ask to be allowed to stay awake - just enough med. to make me drowsy. It's very interesting to watch on the screen.
Stay busy - no sense worrying. Will keep you in my prayers.

Dutch.
I had a couple of internal bleeds 18 months ago. I had a colonoscopy & nothing was found apart from a small patch of diverticulitis.
Like you, I was anaemic after the blood loss. Has iron tablets for 3 months & so far, so good.
Try not to worry. It only makes things worse.

I was on medication when i was in England and it was only when i had my first son the hospital found out i was anemai and i had two pints of blood before he was born and four pints after he was born as i had lost the first two pints ,mybe because he was big baby at 10,9 and i have course of iron injections which i have had over all my children ,my docter said my blood was low but it would be ok then afew weeks ago he sent me to have it check again,he general gives me letter to go the hospital but he didnt .he rang them up himself so i just have to wait for the out come but one thing i will say he phone the hospital and i got the appointment next day

Suzanne Report 30 Nov 2012 21:44

you said you have had anemia since the age of 17? i would have thought you would be on some sort of iron medication??? .if you have been anemic most of your life why dont you take medication.. maybe thats why your blood count is low, maybe you need iron tabs,it could be as simple as that, and also one of the side effects of anemia is memory loss.

Oh dear Dutch,it is still not a good time for you when your worries go on and on. Sending hugs and positive thoughts your way. Keep your chin up,and remember to tell the doc's all of your ongoing symptoms so that you can have the investigations you need to get well soon.

Suzanne i dont take iron tablets the docter has never given me them and i have vit b12 injections every month for over year, they are going to put me out but not fully just so i cant feel it i thought the docter in the hospital was giving me iron tablets but they were vitD
Thank you Elaine

Suzanne Report 30 Nov 2012 21:14

dont worry about your low blood count, you said you have had anemia since the age of 17 so your count will be lower than normal due to the anemia, you also say you have trouble with the toilet, well a side effect of taking iron tablets is trouble with not being able to go. dont worry about the endoscopy,my dad had one 6m ago and he has serious heart problems and was awake during the procedure and only found it a little uncomfortable .
pernicious anemia has nothing to do with blood loss, its to do with the stomach not being able to absorb vitamin b12 from your food,my husband has had the condition since he was 32,hes 49 now and still has vitamin b12 injections every month.

dutch Report 30 Nov 2012 13:54

Kay i have been having vit B12 injection every month i cant remember how long for but its been over year and the docter in the hospital put me on vit D tablets ,i should have told the docter in the hospital that while ago i lost some blood plus i have problems going the toilet which he ask me and i said no as i was frighten to tell him, plus i have degererate bones in my spine and feet and theres nothing they can do for me ,they gave me cleaner to help me for 6 months then took it off me ,said OH was fit to do it when he came home from work he suffers with high blood preasure and diabetets, they gave him acares allonance of 4 euro aweek that is laughable dont you think,i have also had memory test and im in between so all in all not so good for me ,but still try to stay cheerful

Kay????

Kay???? Report 30 Nov 2012 12:06

Dutch, you may just have developed what many elderly people can suffer with with age in that you not absoring and retaining enough iron,,,,,,this can be helped by B12 +folic acid injections usually @ monthly intervals or less depending on how lack of iron is affecting you......it may result in long term or till a satisfactory level is reached then on to tablets........if you have not noticed anything untowards by way of feeling ill or signs in fuctions then dont worry.

and as for internal bleeding,,,,dont be afraid of that statement as no two people react the same or show the same symptoms for the same thing,,,,,that is scaring you without positive proof that is the problem......your doctor and med staff are the experts, listen to them.!
