Ah well, that explains things. I otten wondered why a pop singer would buy a bungalow on an. " older persons " estate just outside Bouremouth.

That would have been the late 1960 s though.

Speaking of Freddy Garrity, we stayed in a hotel in Bornemouth in 1980, which was owned by his then parents in law, and Freddy served behind the bar. Some kids came rushing in to say that they hadn't been able to find any of his records in town that day. Ever the wag, my husband said "But you can't buy 78 records any more". Freddy was not amused! :-D

Freddie Garrity of Freddie and the Dreamers bought the house next to my grandparents, unfortunately, he was hardly ever home when we visited them.

A cousin of my grandad married Lord Antrobus who owned Stonehenge.

I sold shoes to Molly Sugden, ( Mrs Slocombe in are you being served) , Tessa Wyatt, ( Tony Blackburns first wife) and Penelope Keith. And I sold undies to Pauline Collins and John Alderton and Christopher Timothy amongst others when they were at the theatre in Guildford and shopped in the town.

Lawrence ( of Arabia ) was a friend of my grandparents, not sure how, and my Nana, who never did that sort of thing, woke up during the night he died and said she had dreamed something awful had happened to him.

On my thirteenth birthday I met The Love Affair ( 60s pop band ) Frazer Hines, who at the time was in Doctor Who and Roy Hudd, at Battersea Fun Fair. Odd mixture. M

I used to serve the snooker player Ray Readon at the golf club where I worked. He was a regular guest of a long time member and was always very polite.

My second cousin once removed is John Berry Hobbs (Sir Jack Hobbs) the famous cricketer. (1883 - 1963)

Just realised, my brother is well respected in the world of Bonsai pots!!
Niche market, I agree. He tends not to advertise, as he's busy with commissions. But if you google his name (Gordon Duffett) - no, I'm not giving anything away - I don't use that surname on any e-mail, and it's not on my tree, you can see images of his pots

My late father in law was chef to King George VI & the queen mother.

My 4 x grandfather was the heaviest man in England when he died in 1842. But at 32 stone, a lightweight by today's standards!!

My claim to fame

Joe Cocker used to buy me crisps and coke at the local pub when my Uncle took me out (had to take me out)
Making the Kinks coffee in our kitchen when Mum was interviewing them (it took a walk to the loo and a glance at posters on wall to realise who was down stairs)
My step cousin used to play with Mike Oldfield (now that one I am interested in cultivating)
Lenny Henry picked me out in an audience to "talk to" and invited me back stage later for champers and a party plus tickets for another show
Tom O´Conner used to be a family friend (he may still be)
I have twice had pubs used for films and been filmed (in the edited bits)
I met Billy Butlin

I know personally or did before I left the UK Terry Pratchett and friends, Bernard the cunning articifer is still a very good friend.

My biggest claim to fame is I know my hubby and he married me

When I was five Pat Smythe stood behind me in a queue for an ice-cream.

Penelope Keith sponsored me for a walk once.

I had Alan J Lerner in my taxi once, thirty years ago. Christopher Timothy and Roy Hudd (who was actually a bit tasty in the flesh) and Doris Hare were regulars as well.

I sold petrol to Jet Harris.

Big names eh?!

When my brother in law got married, the late Wendy Richard was a guest, and we were fortunate to sit and have a drink with her. What a lovely lady she was. My only other claim to fame was when a colleague at work who, at the time, was an actress (not a famous one) wrote a poetry book. The book launch was in London and amongst her guests was Trevor Eve and his wife Sharon Maughan and Phyllida Law (actress and mother of Emma Thompson).

I spent the night at Elkie Brooks' house in Hither Green in about 1966, had been to London to stay with my boyfriend of the time who was working in Russell Square Hotel and we went to the 100 Club, or somewhere similar where Elkie was singing with her band. We got talking and they invited us back to theirs for the night and to watch some auditions the next morning. The main thing I recall is that there wasn't much to eat, I was starving!

I met Billy Connolly.

It was when had the trouble with the banana boots in Brisbane :-D Late 1970s if my memory is right.

I told him that Queenslanders are known as "banana benders" so they may have not appreciated his footwear.

No, he didn't swear! He was very nice. :-D

And....... I had coffee with Margot Fontaine & Mikael Barishnikov (well, we were in the same coffee shop :-) )
