UzziAndHerDogs Report 12 Jan 2013 16:02

I have just had one of these requests and politely wrote back

***** can you please explain to me your relationship with which member of my tree?

I realise that this is an automated request and that is the reason I won´t share my tree until I have knowledge of whom I´m sharing with.

regards
Uzzi

I have had a lovely reply explaining who the person is related to and all relevant information, also explaining that they are new to the site and do not really understand how it works.
So although it may sound rude it is not always the fault of the sender, a little bit of patience to the new people could help them and us also.

I stopped sharing my tree when I allowed someone to view it and they added the whole tree to theirs.

Now my mothers Irish side had got nothing to do with my paternal grandparents family have NO connection so why would they want to add all my tree, to me that is just number crunching. And I am not into that.

Then I contacted a member, gave them the relevant details and they came back wanting more info, which I gave, then they got extremely rude and said I was not supplying the information they required. So a Full Name, Date and Place of birth, names of parents and all siblings was not enough for this person to establish a contact. After several more really nasty messages I finally had to contact GR to have this person blocked from contacting me. A nightmare....... :-(

Piglets I can understand that nightmare, and I have before nearly shared my tree only to find the person requesting only had 1 name in theirs, for awhile I only sent relevant information.
I have no problem sharing as long as it is share and share alike.

I think out of the 100+ people who have asked to view my tree, only one has been somewhere related because she gave my aunts name as who she was interested in...but not that close, if at all. I asked her what her relationship was and she never replied.....name and photo collector springs to mind. I only have 60 people in my tree on here so not much use to anyone anyway.

A first cousin recently asked me to open my private tree to her on ancestry....no chance, whats the point of having it private if someone with a public tree takes all your info? If she wants to ask me a question as to who married our gt grandfather ect I would help....but I was not going to hand it to her on a plate.

IGP - the thread you mention on Suggestions is mine. I gave the information I received from Estelle on this thread on 11th (see above your posting).

I realise new members might think this is the way it's done, but I don't see why I (or you) have to give access to my tree because someone requests it. THEY should give information on who they are looking for! WE shouldn't have to respond with "who are you looking for".

I hope GR don't take too long to get rid of that default message.

This automated message has only been there 3 months when the search trees function is used

So it has taken GR that long to realise it should not be like that :-S

Here is a thread I started when I noticed it
