Mines the Water Music Suites by Handel. I have several different recodings of the work. I like to play it loud when no-one else is in the house (like now) Sounds very nice with 90 watts per channel and floor standing speakers.

Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 2 in C Minor

I do rather like Handel's Water Music and Firework Music too and yes - a decent music system does make all the difference

Another great one at full volume (or with decent headphones on) is Cars by Gary Numan - was listening to it earlier this afternoon. It was used in an advertisement on television recently but can't remember which one.

RolloTheRed Report 9 Feb 2013 17:51

Beethoven - Piano Sonata No. 23 in F Minor "Appassionata"

My poor old digital Yamaha is just about up for this but not ideal.

AnnCardiff Report 9 Feb 2013 17:52

The Romance from The Gadfly Suite by Rostaprovich - it was the theme music for Riley, Ace of Spies

Andrew Report 9 Feb 2013 17:52

May well have a long session with the headphones tonight. Accompanied by a few cold drinks.

AnnCardiff Report 9 Feb 2013 18:54

that should be Shostakovich!!!! duh!!!!

Rambling Rose

Rambling Rose Report 9 Feb 2013 18:55

Ann, that's my favourite also :-)

AnnCardiff Report 9 Feb 2013 18:57

isn't it gorgeous Rose

Dear All

My all time favourite is Canon in D by Pachelbel.

I first heard this piece of music on a 45rpm record in my early teens.

Listened to many variations of this since.

Take gentle care
Best wishes
Elizabeth, EOS

Vaughan Williams - Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - Magical!!

SuffolkVera Report 9 Feb 2013 19:35

Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, particularly the slow movement. Holds a lot of memories for me.

I also like Sibelius' Finlandia - don't know why but it always makes me want to cry.
Pathetic aren't I?

GeordiePride Report 9 Feb 2013 19:41

Anything by MANTOVANI

PatinCyprus Report 9 Feb 2013 19:53

Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana :-)

AnnCardiff Report 9 Feb 2013 20:29

I remember going to see Mantovani - many years ago - I have his autograph

terryj Report 9 Feb 2013 20:33

catch that teardrop by the five royales
classic northern soul takes me back to the highland room and the ritz when i was young enough to back drop and come back up again without help
nowadays i have to settle for dancing like my dad (well almost)

Wend Report 9 Feb 2013 20:34

Three 'de-stressers' I've been listening to recently are:

Arvo Part - Spiegel im Spiegel

'Dawn' from the film music by Dario Marianelli - 'Pride & Prejudice'

and an old faithful, which always gives me a lift:

Johnny Pearson's 'Sleepy Shores'

GeordiePride Report 9 Feb 2013 20:40

Ann - Just love listening to Charmaine by Mantovani, It is so soothing after a hard day on the boards. ;-)

MrDaff Report 9 Feb 2013 21:25

AnnCardiff Report 9 Feb 2013 21:29
