Wassup Mersey? :-S

Island

Island Report 12 Feb 2013 14:56

That's ok Susan but I have seen a lot of digs about 'quick fire / banter / in jokes etc by members who seem to know each other and exclude others' and it's absolute baloney.
As I've said, one dig too far put me off posting for a while.

Don't want to join in fun threads? That's absolutely fine.
Exaggerating is not.

supercrutch Report 12 Feb 2013 15:03

Wasn't Island referring to what Sheila posted?

I'm afraid I have lost my ability to deliver quick fire banter :-(

However, everyone is welcome to extract the Michael from me, please refer to Merlin's post :-P :-P

Some people do not have ANY sense of humour, just a very few but they seem to shout louder than those that do :-( :-(

By and large I enjoy the threads, and comment when I think I have something to worthwhile to contribute. From time time I have seen some unpleasantness that I have considered to be unnecessary , and on occasions this has become deliberately provocative argumentative, and aggressive. Sometimes I have noticed where old scores are brought into this public forum, personally I do not feel the need to read what has gone on before. I do not have much experience of using this type of forum and was surprised at the content and vitriol of some of the postings. However, I have chatted to some very nice people and think it would be sad to lose the opportunity to have the General Chat threads altogether. We all have our own views and opinions and I believe we have the right to voice them on a public forum, however I think as adults we should be aware of the damage the written word can have when it is not tempered with a modicum of restraint. In my opinion it is GRs responsibility to monitor the threads and not rely on individuals to make the reporting decisions on everyone else’s behalf. :-D :-D :-D

I'm not shouty but.......

I DO HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOUR, AH SAY AH DO HAVE...........

;-) :-D :-D :-D

TBH, I just make it up on the hoof as do others I'm sure. If that's misconstrued as 'in jokes' so be it. *shrugs shoulders* :-)

Whistles loudly to gain attention !

I am having trouble with my eye again ( still ) and today it is worse, so I am having problems reading and posting much ... I don't want to leave a thread that has potential for someone posting 'about' individuals unless I'm here, or that could get a bit tetchy so I am tempted to delete this one unless......

Perhaps I could just ask that if you have a general opinion please post it, but if you have a specific comment on individuals ( for or against) you could leave it for another day? or just let this thread slide into oblivion :-D

Thankyou :-D

Susan10146857 Report 12 Feb 2013 15:16

I doubt anyone is deliberately excluded from any of the threads. Some of us.....well me actually :-D, exclude themselves, depending on what mood they are in and if that day I/they are feeling paranoid or not. :-D

You, or anyone on here, cannot please everyone, so as long as there is no deliberate malice in anything one posts I would go ahead and post where you feel comfortable. there are a few threads I feel 'uncomfortable' with so I tend to keep away mostly even if I do 'know' the posters.

You,personally, get on with many people, so to omit from posting, as I see it, would deprive you and your friends of much enjoyment, as well as those who may read but not participate.

I agree Island :-D

I must also say that if 'Chat' went, I'd miss it, but I'd sure get more done, including FH research :-)

I have been surprised at some of the posts recently and like Paula I haven't any other experiences of other sites. I enjoy reading most of the threads whatever the subjects but steer clear for fear of confrontation on the serious ones.
Life is too short.
Island, you shout all you want hon, I'll go and open a window

Rose, worrying for you that your eye is no better, you had not said anything lately so I was thinking it was better.

ChAoTicintheNewYear

ChAoTicintheNewYear Report 12 Feb 2013 17:03

I think Sheila has a point wrt some of the discussion threads being taken over by fun fests. The one Sue put up about the archdruid throwing a tantrum, as interesting as it was, did descend into a fun fest. Ann's same sex thread was taken completely off topic. While I believe that good debates will go off at a tangent they usually stick relatively close to the main point. Tesco has nothing to do with same sex marriages although I'm sure they'll find a way to make money out of them ;-)

Wrt in jokes...if you come on a forum to find someone making a 'joke' that you know nothing about but a group of other posters seem to it probably feels like an in joke, even if it's not meant to.

"Most of the time it flows well and it is only when tit for tat starts that things get out of hand."

I also agree with what Ann said above. Remember one thing...you cannot control the behaviour of other people only your own. We are all responsible for our own behaviour, how we react and respond so next time somebody annoys you ask yourself is it better to respond or ignore. What you choose to do is up to you but you have to take responsibility for that. It's no good saying s/he made me do it. No, they didn't...you chose to.

Wrt the general chat board...genes have seen worse than some of the spats of the last few days. The boards have survived that so if they do go it'll be more likely for financial reasons than a few members falling out.

SheilaSomerset Report 12 Feb 2013 18:03

Mea culpa - that's what comes of not reading things back before posting, which I do (normally).

Should not have said 'every' or even 'every *serious* thread', perhaps 'every lengthy thread I've bothered to read recently'. Some threads ARE fun threads from the start - fine - what bothers me a bit is that some posters may feel their comments 'degraded' when things go a bit awol :-S.

Other than that I stand by my comments, they are not a dig at anyone, just my opinion. And I do have a sense of humour, although it's been stretched a bit thin in the last few weeks, in the 'real world' :-D.

Oops, sorry BC, it's an acronym commonly used on another forum I post on

For anyone else who may be wondering wrt = with regards to.
