For a while i've been buying what I thought was butter...packaged like butter, sold on the same shelf as butter....

That is until I looked at my receipt and saw it was labelled as a *spread*

Ultimately it's absolutely my fault for not looking on the packet myself..but I do find the packaging and the product placement VERY sneaky... I wonder how many other people , like me, who don't like the idea of *spreads* have been picking this product up assuming it to be proper butter.????

It's called Willow btw.

We buy that! :-D

It took a while before we read the packaging, but as we like it, it doesn't bother us. OH always used to say he didn't like 'marg' but neither of us realised that this was non-dairy.

It's the idea of spreads I don't like....they are basically coloured yellow sludge...I liked the taste too Det..but I've sidelined my stock now for baking....

If you are intending to use it for baking, but like the taste as a spread, why not continue to use it as such? :-S

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 16 Feb 2013 11:19

Just to use it up really.....now I know it's sludge it puts me off eating it where it's visible...it's just a *thing* of mine !

Does it detail the ingredients? Spreads have other things in them I think.

Dairy farm near me makes wonderful ice-cream now which really is cream. According to our mate Oz,who never quite gets things right, she makes ice-cream on the farm, using her own milk. Wonderful woman, wonderful but very tired now she is supplying wholesale!

I remember in the late 40's and 50's when butter came in a huge lump and the grocer used butter pats to shape the amount you wanted into a small block.

Maybe it is just me, but butter these days does not seem to taste as good as it did back then.

Hayley, Muffy phoned me at 7 am screaming "what have I done?" then waffled on for 10 minutes talking in tongues . I think those words were the ingredients in her spread.

Please don't encourage her to share :-( she will be reading every packet now and I need to keep my phone line clear :-P ;-) :-P ;-) :-) :-D :-D

Willow combines traditionally churned buttermilk, vegetable oil and cream

Take out of wrapping, place in butter dish & no-one except you will know it is not pure butter. (the vegetable oil makes it easier to spread.) :-D
