I thought I would start this thread due to Cyns (Cynthia) good adivce

First top tip, I leaned from Cyns:

Spray your grouting and sealants with a mixture of bleach and water. I do it every day and do not have one bit of mould or soap scum in the shower/bathroom

It's OK on on plastics, chrome etc....I use about 25% bleach to water

Trying to think of one. I suspect we all do lots of things others would consider a good tip without thinking about it.

White vinegar is great for all sorts of things. I use it to soak hard water stins off vases, diluted with a little water and leave to soak. Will think of more later I hope.

Bi carb can be used for many things,latest tried put some in your trainers it gets rid of the horrible smell. ;-)

Sorry to be a bit of a damp squib but please be careful when using bleach.

It irritates the mucus membranes and is harmful to the environment.

I'm not advocating that you don't use it but maybe not everyday.

My tip is to use bicarbonate of soda for lots of cleaning stains.

Vinegar in Warm water cleans windows and mirrors used with newspapers
with out leaving streaks.

white vingar also kills the smell odourizes if a tom cat sprays :-(

Non Bio Soap powder dissolved in hot water and rubbed where Tom cat sprays can also get rid of the smell.

I used to use it on the walls outside when I had queens.even though they had been doctored still used to get Tom's around.

I meant bleach is bad for the environment. It needs to be used with caution.

I put "damp squib" cos I didn't want to come over as pedantic which I'm not.

Sue - I use vinegar on tiles as well as it makes them shiny.It was a light house keeper at Pendeen who told me about vinegar and newspaper to clean glass as that it what they used on the light.

By the way, I don't spray my tiles every day.............I know what Von means.


Vinegar is great for lots of things - in fact, I think I remember my mum saying something about rinsing meat in vinegar during the war ..... presumably when it was going off slightly ?

Cyns....I is trying to distract my mind!

And the only thing I would do with meat.....leave it 'alive'!

If you put all your peelings in a jar of white vinegar and let them steep for a while it makes a good cleaner for all sorts of things including floors.

I use the vinegar out of jars of pickles in the same way but it stinks a bit.

I just buy a sweet smelling (camomile?) floor cleaner from the supermarket at a reasonable price. Add 3 caps to water, wash floor - comes up clean and shiny. Job done. Lasts for months too (the liquid), only need to do it when the grandchildren are visiting usually - pre and post with the odd swish around in between, LOL!

Tip for White double glazing frames..

When you wash the frames.let them dry a little then tin of wax polish them all over the frame..then
Next time you wash them the Muck/dirt comes off a lot easier.

Grout gets mouldy very quickly! When we redid the bathroom, we sealed all the grout. We used a spray, but you can get it in a bottle and spend hours using a small paintbrush. We also sealed the grout on the tiles behind the cooktop in the kitchen.

We live in a high humidity area (sub-tropical) so we get mould, but don't have to spend hours scrubbing the grout.

For the mould ~ try clove oil, it smells a lot nicer than bleach! Add a few drops of the oil to a spray bottle of water.

Clove oil kills the mould, bleach only takes out the colour (that's what I was told).

The smell reminds me of when granny made apple pies with cloves.

About 1/2 bottle of white vinegar in both washing machine and dishwasher and put on hot wash - will clean them and get rid of any limescale - especially handy if in hard water area as I am.

Film on highly polished furniture? Mix of vinegar and water will soon fix that.

Clean sinks, wash basins and shower outlets by pouring washing soda crystals in them and pour boiling water over and leave.

Greasy and oily overalls - steep in bucket with washing soda.

Limescale around taps? take a sheet of kitchen roll and fold over until about 1" wide, soak in white vinegar and wrap around tap for about 15 minutes.

Showerhead running slow? Steep in white vinegar for a couple of hours, then rinse.
Sweat stains? spray with white vinegar before washing.

To stop the bottom of shower curtain becoming mouldy - coat it with baby oil.

Blocked up sink? 1/3 cup vinegar and 1/3 cup of bi-carb and pour into sink.

I am bushed now after typing this!!!!
