I loved her eyemake up and hair yes one black outfit she wore with chains on it was a bit over the top wasnt it

Mauatthecoast Report 1 Mar 2013 23:55

I think most of her outfits were Hayley but she had her own style and was fabulous. When she was first out she sounded more like a black singer,so different to Lulu and Sandy Shaw

Suzanne Report 2 Mar 2013 00:19

watching the classic soul now on bbc4 and dusty was on it,singing in 1967 when i was three,my mum wore makeup and dresses just like her,oh how i wish i could have worn those lovely shift dresses,Aretha franklin was brilliant,

so many memories of my teenage yrs during the late 70s listening to motown and crying over boys :-D :-D :-D :-D

Mauatthecoast Report 2 Mar 2013 13:36

With Hayley's permission.....

Sugarbabes might be the best girl band but imo no match for Dusty :-)

I agree Dusty was the one really that brought Motown to the UK, they had a few promotion tours over here and did nothing, Dusty went over and toured the USA and fell in love with Atlantic Soul and Tamla Motown she heavily promoted it on her Shows thankfully the UK then took notice ...well done Dusty I have that song "stay a while " in my head all day :-D :-D

My favourite from Dusty was "If you go away" - beautiful.

Suzanne Report 2 Mar 2013 23:06

i cant say i really remember her songs, but i remember my mum dressing like mum was lovely and still is,and also quite fashionable even now in her 70s. :-D

Jean Report 3 Mar 2013 00:13

great progamme. brought back happy memories. i used to do the eye make up, backcombed my hair. my sis used to iron my fringe for me, to get it straight like hers. max factor mascara was then a block, it came with a small brush you dipped in a bit of water. happy days...

terryj Report 3 Mar 2013 18:36

just watched it on catchup due to being out and about
her hair woudn't have moved in a gale
her version of " whats it gonna be" got a lot of plays on the northern soul scene back in the day
loved the soul on the bbc afterwards although some of the acts were a bit passed their sell by date
prison and religion have killed al greens voice

StrayKitten Report 3 Mar 2013 18:43

who?? :-P

Hayley Empress of Drama Report 3 Mar 2013 21:19

Terry I have to agree , Percy Sledge looked like he took a wrong turning out of Butlins, he reminded me of a gospel preacher from a cheap 1980s film, and he didnt sound that clever either :-D

If you noticed some of them like James Brown RIP and like AL Green they dont hit the notes anymore their backing singers do.

terryj Report 3 Mar 2013 21:51

used to love al green back in the day thought he could have gone on to be as good as otis redding.
his voice used to make the hairs on the back off my neck stand up just so much soul
