Hayley

I grew up on the edge of the Pennines :-D :-D

yesterday it was light at about 6:15 am, and went dark at about 6:10 pm .................. so we were almost at 12 hour day / 12 hour night

This morning it was about 7:15 am when it was light and tonight it will be something after 7 pm ..................... I think I have that right!!!

But this early change over does mean that heating and lights have to be turned on the mornings when they would not need to be on if we did not have DST ................

and DST runs until November 3

Silly Sausage Report 10 Mar 2013 23:15

Sylvia its t'other way round here, I rarely venture out of the house before 7.30 am and now its light and still light at 5.pm and its always cold here we have 2 winters normal winter and then we have July :-D

Thanks Wend :-D

Maybe an apology will be forthcoming ;-)

Wend Report 10 Mar 2013 22:45

What a shame :-(

It was a very interesting thread and . . .
:-| . . . to whoever spoilt it.

I haven't been on here to-day, so missed what transpired, but I'm sorry that Sue felt compelled to delete it.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 10 Mar 2013 22:22

No problem Sylvia, tomorrow is another day :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Mar 2013 22:07

Sue

that must have all happened after I went to bed ............... at that time 2 posts had been RR'd .................

Sharron's one about the cow being killed, and one of mine in which, after joking with her about the mystery RR'er, I basically said that I sometimes wondered if the mystery RR'er appeared after ingesting or drinking substances.

so, I'm sorry if I contributed to what went on later by that joking post.

Hayley .....................

yes it is earlier than you ......................... but the US and Canada have 8 months on DST and 4 months off .......................

all because Bush was persuaded 8 or 9 years ago that starting DST earlier and ending it later in the year would save more money and energy ..............

................... persuaded by energy companies of course

which makes sense now, as it is patently obvious that MORE energy is used so MORE money has to be spent!

Canada had to follow suit, as our businesses, stock markets, etc are all tied so closely to the US

It was pretty cold at the "new" 6 am this morning, and I can tell you it will seem awful dark at 5 pm this afternoon!

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 10 Mar 2013 21:53

Thank you all, I never delete because I stand by what I say, good or bad and people can either agree or criticise. I never, ever take the cowardly way out.

This ONE time I had no choice, with all the reported posts which had been removed some pages made no sense :-( so yes that was cowardly and I certainly don't feel good about it at all.

Such a shame when John accused me of posting the thread as a goad some people didn't tell him to be quiet and go away so contributors could carry on adding in peace.

Life goes on and no doubt as an atheist I'll watch another programme on religion I find interesting and John will have another opportunity to berate me for goading.

Mersey Report 10 Mar 2013 21:38

Can I just say if Sue does not mind me saying so, that it must take a hell of alot for her to delete as I know she does not like deleted posts when it is uncalled for and I fully understand why she does.....

I read her post this afternoon and understood everything she said about how it was going and also to the fact she was working on a interesting tree.

I delete sometimes and I can see how silly or inconvenient it can be and I am trying hard not to, but defintley in this case can fully understand Sue.

Your clocks forward are early ant they ours isnt till the end of the month Sylvia :-D

Muffyxx Report 10 Mar 2013 21:33

Sue has been the target of vitriol all weekend but because she doesn't lower herself to playing the smallest violin in the world some folk turn a blind eye.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Mar 2013 21:32

Sorry, Sue

I was, of course, in bed, fast asleep, at UK lunch time, and even at 4 or 5 pm UK afternoon

.......... especially as this is "clock forward" day for us

The last time I saw the thread was just before I went bed at about 8:30 am UK time

This nastiness on threads is getting all to common, unfortunately.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 10 Mar 2013 21:24

Sylvia I WAS interested but by mid afternoon I had a quick look and at 4.20pm I posted about my intention to delete as the thread was deteriorating badly.

I said I was working on a tree and couldn't watch developments so best it was removed to stop any further nastiness.

Edit. No need to apologise Hayley, I'm sure if I had sat and watched it I would have bitten back hard.

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 10 Mar 2013 21:20

It did get back on course and the comments and links were very interesting however by this lunch time some silly posts has returned and more aimmed at Sue than the topic of the thread and I hold my hands up I was too had repiled to them. Sorry Sue <3

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Mar 2013 21:13

I'm sorry Sue .................

you do of course have every right to remove any thread that you wish.

I thought it had gone back on course.

and I did not believe that I was posting insults to you ................... at least, not after I told you the honest feeling I had earlier in the day that I felt you were dismissive, and seemed to think of me as stupid at times.

I honestly thought that you would be interested to know more about the Hutterites ................ from a print article that was an extension of the very same BBC2 programme you had watched.

and I most certainly did not think nor accuse you of having put it up to goad members. So I was NOT glad to see it go!

Forgive me if I was wrong.

JustGinnie

JustGinnie Report 10 Mar 2013 21:12

Well I found the majority of the thread very interesting and I didn't know anything about the Hutterites before.
It is a great pity that some people can't leave a thread to continue without jumping in and throwing insults and nasty comments about other posters. No need for it at all. Difference of opinions, yes, but some can't take that.
I fully understand why Sue deleted I would most likely have done so earlier.
Shame as it was interesting.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 10 Mar 2013 21:10

Had not heard of Hutterites myself and was fascinated to learn more about them.

Hope somebody has kept the useful posts. I do remember a lot of the points that DET and SylviainCanada posted.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 10 Mar 2013 21:04

good on you Sue - it really did take a ridiculous turn - never understood why - and of course, yet again, the self professed goader JLC is there in the midst of it all - why am I not surprised - surely he should be out preaching somewhere

there was reference to "slating" the Hutterites - not true

making fun of the Hutterites - not true again

Seems to say more about who does the posting than the subject of the post - I love hearing about other religions, sects etc., find them fascinating and don't think I'd come across the Hutterites before
