I love lemons (lemonade, lemon pudding, lemon marmalade etc etc), but I would NEVER put lemon in a nippy sweetie :-)

If I feel a sniffle coming on, I might have a hot lemon drink with a dash of whisky........ it might not help with the sniffles, but it makes me feel better :-D. If I have two or more I don't care.

Anyone want a recipe for whisky marmalade?

:-D

I'm just wondering if liquidising the whole lemon and then freezing would be any good ...at least for hot drinks

Dealing with lemons, and rinds, is just a case of pithing around ;-)

Same as you Paula, have sliced and frozen on a tray for years, also limes. I've had a bagful in the freezer since before xmas, have gone off G&T. Will try to use it in cooking!! ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

P.S. It would ruin the whisky...

Merlin, it would be a Hanging Offence, can you imagine the reaction of going into a decent old fashioned Scottish pub and asking for a large malt with a sprinkling of lemon rind on it :-D :-D :-D

I used to like a slice of lemon in a gin and tonic - but I developed an allergy to the main ingredient - juniper berries :-( :-( :-(

Merlin

Merlin Report 12 Mar 2013 14:09

Putting it in a decent Malt could be construed as a Hanging Offence. :-D :-D :-D

Lol @ OFITG comments :-D

I quite agree! I have never liked a slice of lemon in an alcoholic drink....only time in a drink , possibly on a hot day in an iced glass of water (usually abroad when they take the glasses out of the fridge too ) then the slice gets binned well before the water is drunk.!

I just don't like the taste of lemon, in cake or anything :-(
So , no thanks AnnC no takes for your frozen lemon ;-)

Having taken the peel off a lemon with the potato peeler I then cut it up the same way as I chop herbs,in a cup with a pair of scissors.

I have a bag of frozen lemon juice in the freezer. Each block is about 1 Tablespoon.

Next time I do the ice I'll chop up the lemon peel.

The problem will be finding space in the freezer!

A frozen lemon will be almost impossible to grate!
Try it, but have a good supply of plasters ready!

Freeze lemon peel, chopped after peeling.
Whizz the flesh in a food processor and freeze the pulp for lemon meringue pie
Slice & freeze lemon slices for G&T

If you want juice from a lemon but don't want to waste the rest of it, you can roll it hard on a worktop, then wash it well and stick a clean skewer or similar object into the peel and squeeze the juice from the hole. Warming in a microwave for a few seconds also helps release the juice, don't make the hole first tho lol

You can use the rest of the lemon cut into pieces and frozen into ice cubes for drinks, or freeze it until you need lemon peel, or cut it in half and pour boiling water over the lemon halves, strain and add honey for a soothing drink when you have a sore throat or a cold.

You can also use two lemon halves after the juice is squeezed out, sit for a few minutes with each elbow in each half of lemon while you read a magazine or have a cuppa, it will whiten discoloured elbows, or you can do it with your fingertips to remove stains from fingernails.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 12 Mar 2013 00:50

whenever we need to use the pulp or juice of a lemon, I take off the rind .................

it can get a bit messy ................ bit hard to squeeze a lemon without the rind, and hard to grate the rind off quarters of lemon, sometimes

so I usually end up using a peeler to strip off the rind without much pith, then a very sharp knife to cut it into tiny strips.

Then I put the rind into a freezer bag, and pop it into the door of the freezer.

It's there for whenever I need grated rind ...... whether for a cake, stir fry or whatever!

I even take the rind off the lemon quarters that we have squeezed over pancakes.

I've done this for years ................ it saves throwing out the rind when you only need the pulp or juice, or throwing out the pulp and juice when you only want the rind.

hmmm

Snopes doesn't agree with the medical side of it.

I never thought of freezing lemons.

I will try this out.

Something different......... I already have jars of lemon/orange marmalade!

OH actually eats lemon rind! Without screwing his face up :-0
