Brenda from Wales - Margaretfinch uses a voice reader programme. If you can find one of her threads, you could send her a message assuming she is still around. Come to think of it, I haven't spotted her for a few months!

Brenda from Wales - some versions of Windows have speech recognition built in. Many think it is just for dictating letters but it can actually be used to control the computer. PM me if you want more infornation about that and other things that can be done to make a computer more accessible for the visually impaired.

Paula - judging by the amount of snow we have had overnight and the amount predicted for today I may need to hang on to all the wool I have. However, your wool order is at the top of the dispatch list for when supplies are plentiful.

Janet Report 22 Mar 2013 11:09

I woke up to lots of snow, sent a text to my friend to say I wouldn't risk the five mile journey to the other side of town as planned. Decided I would have a housework day, hence the snow as I don't do housework. Then the door bell went at 0915. Very unusual as I don't do early mornings.......

It was my eighty year old neighbour who was going to Portugal today and had to catch a train to get to Gatwick. He had had a call from his taxi firm to say none of their staff had turned in for work, could I possibly run him to the station. Well what can you say?

Suffice to say I did get him to the station and then struggled to get my car back into my drive on the return. I tried to drive in but because of the angle, the deep snow and the rise over the pavement it would have been too close to the neighbours car to risk trying. I then thought about leaving it in my neighbour's drive so went forward but that didn't work. From that position I then reversed my car into the drive and stopped two inches short of the corner of my house which would have redesigned the rear valance......but didn't. Fortunately I have never been stuck in snow in the nearly fifty years of driving but nowadays I prefer not to even try. I think I will suggest to my neighbour that he only goes away in Summer in future ..........................-jl

Good morning everyone. Snow, snow and more snow! The road outside my house looks slushy (is that a word) but the paths look treacherous, and the sky looks full of it. have an appointment this morning, but I think I will rearrange, OH has to go to the Drs later so we will have to brave the snow.

Brenda from Wales, do you have a local branch of RNIB, they have some specially adapted computers, perhaps you could go and have a look there.

Annx I agree about the heat in the NEC, and it is always so packed it takes ages to get around, we always pay to hang our coats up it is worth it. Have a good day if you manage to get there.

Errol, can I put some extra wool on order, I am going to learn to knit, there is a fortune to be made from woolie jumpers.

Mornin' each :-D

Errol me sad face was for the snow forecast.

Morning All, Yes we are well covered this morning. Dont' think there is a school open in the county, according to local radio. Next doors have gone to work but I will be suprised if they get through
Over the weekend, they have forecasted 20cm, further up the Peak District, and winds of 30/40 mph, even down here.
Oh well, will have to keep the radiator warm, and keep crocheting.

Annx, I saw that exhibition advertised on the telly he other night. My thoughts were that why does it not come further North, instead of stopping at Birmingham. Don't they know there is actual living, breathing humans living past Birmingham. I would have loved to have gone to that.

The OH has gone to do the 'Baccy' run, on foot, so I'll see how long it takes him. Blessed dog took one look outside, and came back in.

Take care everyone, and keep warm

Think it looked a lot better on you, Wend :-D. Mersey looks a treat.

No snow yet in South Wales. Seems to be above a line from Aberystwyth to Hull, so huge commiserations if you live in mid and North Wales and Cheshire, Yorks etc.

Coldest day I can remember down here yesterday. Think it was the biting wind. It was the only day for over a year when I have had to wear my mittens to keep fingers unfrozen. Will be same today, with quite a bit more very cold rain
:-( :-(

Woke up to snow....live up a hill ...was going to Llandudno to an exhibition that I really wanted to go to that has lots of aids for the blind.....I have a friend who I am trying to help to make him more independent...and heard about a computer programme that will react to the voice and thought it would be demonstrated.
Decided not to chance it as its not only going...it's getting back.
So disappointed ..was looking forward to it.....weather grrrrr!!!!

Yes, I'll be travelling there from leicester (if I go) and there's bound to be hold ups on the roads I expect.........first thing tomorrow I'll be looking out the window to see how deep it is!! There was me thinking I would be able to leave my coat in the car so I didn't have to carry it as it's always boiling hot inside the NEC. :-S
