Didn't have one but in the 50s money was scarce getting married cost enough. ;-)

Wend Report 12 May 2013 19:27

Went to Il Parmigiano for dinner in Kemp Town with 12 girlfriends, then onto Kings Club and then I ended the evening being rather poorly over the railings on the sea-front by Brighton Pier. Can't remember any more :-D

Mine was going to be a meal with my pals at an Indian restaurant in Sunderland in 1979, but was cancelled because of heavy snow - not safe to drive.
Today's Hen nights, and Stag do's can be really OTT. It must be a nightmare for some venues, both home and abroad.

Didn't they used to be called a "show of presents"? Happened over two evenings, the first for Grannies and Aunties and the second for pals and workmates. Tea and sandwiches followed a small sherry. On the second night the bride to be was dressed up and taken around the local streets armed with a chamber pot to collect donations in exchange for kisses from the local guys - unless, of course, you lived in a posh area! Ah, for the good old days when "hen nights" didn't cost an arm and a leg......... and a hangover!!!!

I was talking to my own kids just the other day about the "show of presents".
My 22yrs old is still laughing, and thinks the concept is hilarious.
I only told them about the 2 nights and all the gifts being laid out.
I never even mentioned the chamber pot, or... the banging of old pots and pans.

I remember it well.......

I went out for a meal with three girlfriends.

Was a bit weird, because they didn't know I was getting married. They thought it was a get-together before I went overseas.

After dinner we went to a casino, we all won a little bit (whoopee!).

On the walk back to the car a loony jumped out of a doorway and flashed us :-P. Two of the girls walked to the other side of the road, the other one and I laughed at him.

We had a stripper and didn't have to pay him :-D

;-)
