thanks for all the names so far, keep up the good work.

also remember chip shop and moor shop hamlets/villages near tavistock in devon, apparently its where the miners had to shop using the tokens or 'chips' that they were paid with. naturally the shops were run by the mine owners and had much higher prices than the shops in tavistock

Staffy Knot I know Shittington / Shitlington and present day Shillington very well. Just a few miles from me and my kids used to go to school there.

There's a place in South Australia named Pitchi Ritchi Pass

http://www.prr.org.au/cms/

Not a strange name really, but the local council are constantly replacing the signs, because some people think it's funny to blank out the first letters of each word.

:-D

People outside Cardiff seem to find Splott funny-sounding.

Near Walsall there is a place called Bloxwich. Have no idea why that is funny either, but many outside the Midlands are very amused :-S

Lower Peover used to be about halfway between Wolverhampton and Preston on old road before M6 was built. And Pidley near St Ives in Cambs.

Between Elstree and Potters Bar there is a Trotters Bottom. I was driving that way one morning to work, and radio announcer on LBC said "Car Reg No B432DUV has phoned it to say he is stuck in a traffic jam in Trotters Bottom near Cuffley" Fortunately queue was in other direction to me, so I and quite a few drivers gave the poor so and so a hoot and a wave as we sailed past his jam :-D
