I remember reading this idea soon after i learned to drive and still think it is a good one.

Isn't it a shame that there is no hand signal that indicates "Sorry."

ZZzzz Report 22 May 2013 22:38

Yes I agree Sharron, it is a pity there is no signal for sorry, sometimes we make a genuine mistake and cannot get out to apologise, although someone did put hands up as if in prayer so that could be adopted. :-)

Both hands off the wheel?

Allan

Allan Report 22 May 2013 23:07

We have one here in Oz, which is a one finger salute

I think it means sorry! :-0

PricklyHolly Report 22 May 2013 23:11

I've given a few of those one fingered apologies Allan.

And if i'm really, really sorry.............i use two.

Yes,we all have selection of ways to express our anger but not one of expressing our regret.

I might add that, if people can't see me stop to allow them through and thank me then they can't see me stick my fingers up at them!

Sharron

Sharron Report 23 May 2013 00:28

Is that the one you use to say sorry Bob?

LadyScozz Report 23 May 2013 02:12

I've seen drivers give lots of hand signals

They weren't indicating where they were going........ I think they were telling other drivers where to go.

:-(

My GPS is like that, Scozz.

Also my wife! :-|

How about passing one hand down in front of the face then holding it out, palm up, towards the other person? Could that say 'I am embarrassed by my mistake, please forgive me'?

Emm! Good try Huia but by the time you cover your face you will no doubt be past the other driver and probably into the back of the car in front .....keep trying though :-D

Nolls, it is just a quick pass down in front of my face, not that I have tried it when driving, but I certainly wouldnt do it if there was a car just in front of me. Of course our traffic might not be as thick as the traffic in England.

Anyway, I usually err on the side of safety, and I also let other people in even when I am not obliged to.

I am with Allan on this. Whenever Prickles waves to me (and she must live in S Wales cos I see same young lady often waving at me) I wave back and thank her for appreciating my wonderful and considerate driving :-D :-D

Carefull how you gesture, I understand in some countries holding your hand up palm towards the other person means your are pushing excrement in their face!
