Greeting’s

This was tried many moons ago :~
Hold up 3 fingers slightly apart in the horizontal position
Which looked like the letter “ E ” which stood foe “ Excuse me “
But it didn’t take off owing to the use of other finger signaling mentioned already.

I favour occasionally the 'John Terry Verbal Dexterity' method of communication.

Handshakes are ill-advised. A toxic combination.

I use the British Sign Language sign for "Thank you"

With fingers of your right hand held together, touch your chin, then move them away with the palm raised upward (almost like blowing a kiss). Perhaps the other motorists will not know I am saying "Thank you", but I know I am.

There is also a sign for when someone has cut you up, or some other driving offence, but I am far too much of a lady to disclose it on here. ;-)

my "sorry" is to open mouth and then place hand over mouth......Gobsmacked even............like OOOOPS!!!

Carefull how you gesture, I understand in some countries holding your hand up palm towards the other person means your are pushing excrement in their face!

I am with Allan on this. Whenever Prickles waves to me (and she must live in S Wales cos I see same young lady often waving at me) I wave back and thank her for appreciating my wonderful and considerate driving :-D :-D

Anyway, I usually err on the side of safety, and I also let other people in even when I am not obliged to.

Nolls, it is just a quick pass down in front of my face, not that I have tried it when driving, but I certainly wouldnt do it if there was a car just in front of me. Of course our traffic might not be as thick as the traffic in England.

Emm! Good try Huia but by the time you cover your face you will no doubt be past the other driver and probably into the back of the car in front .....keep trying though :-D

How about passing one hand down in front of the face then holding it out, palm up, towards the other person? Could that say 'I am embarrassed by my mistake, please forgive me'?

They weren't indicating where they were going........ I think they were telling other drivers where to go.

Yes,we all have selection of ways to express our anger but not one of expressing our regret.

I might add that, if people can't see me stop to allow them through and thank me then they can't see me stick my fingers up at them!
