I love taking my teenage grandson shopping with us - he always finds the cheapest and doesn't pick the top brand if another one is cheaper. Obviously passing on what his mother learnt from hers! |

Trouser manufactures are skimping on waistband sizes, what really bothers me is they have got into my wardrobe and altered the ones I have had for ages too! ;-) |

I remember Mars Bars doing this trick when I was very young. A Mars Bar was 5d and had been 5d for yonks. Then they reduced the size by 20% and still sold it for 5d. |

By 1971, Bob, prices were pretty stable. You knew that a newspaper was 3d, a packet of crisps was 4d, a Mars Bar was 6d. All of a sudden we were confused about prices. And I think the real inflation came when the half new penny was removed from circulation. Everything that had been 2 and a half new pence (6 old pence) suddenly became 3 new pence. |

In Oz, everything is marked (on the shelf, not the product) for the price per kilogram, per litre, for one or for ten. |

I noticed a while back that the sausages I usually buy from Tesco, Sainsbury or Morrisons no longer had the same weight, altho the price stayed the same, the weights were less. Same with baked beans I found one tin didn't seem to go as far, had a look and they were down by several grams. It's really annoying, I think I would prefer the weight to stay the same and the price go up a bit, at least I would know what I was doing lol |

Dare I give everybody a good laugh here? Some years back I felt that a piece of toilet paper wasn't the same size that it used to be. A week later I happened to find an old roll (or part thereof) in our caravan. I compared the size with the new roll and there was definitely a difference. Perhaps they were hoping to encourage us all to lose weight, so the smaller size would be ok. All very well for those who have no problem losing weight. :-( |
