DC, what an image you conjure up lol

In the Greek islands where we have holidayed they are only now replacing the sewer pipes with larger diameter ones but at the mo, used loo roll has to be put in bins and not always closed ones either. They are emptied every day and you do get used to doing it most of the time. O.h. was horrified tho, I hadn't told him about the rules until we arrived on the island lol

Flushable wipes for adults are just baby wipes under a different name and thus they are able to charge more for them. I have for many years have used baby wipes after using the loo. Am paranoid about body odours.

Live in a Victorian Terrace, complete with Victorian plumbing, have only ever had a problem once in the last 15 years.

Even using too much loo roll can clog up your pipes. But we ladies have to use more loo roll than men, nothing to shake. And you cannot jump up and down!!!!

well i have just been to Asda and believe it or not those mini bins have been reduced to £4 so one beside each loo now...lol

Maybe this has to happen to you before you give it much thought...but i was taken in by the label..

I suppose manufacturers get away with it because 'flushable' simply means it will disappear when we flush - out of sight, out of mind :-|
Maybe they don't have to state whether it is biodegradable AND how long it takes to break down.
I doubt it is a case of a change in materials used in wipes that is 'suddenly' causing problems, rather it has built up over time and has now become evident.

Coloured toilet paper used to be a big no-no because the dye prevented the paper breaking down quickly - why do we need coloured loo roll anyway? :-S

The first time I went to France, I was about 10 (a school trip) and we had a bidet in the bathroom. We all thought 'how civilized' to provide a very useful foot bath :-D

Cooper, surprised that this is the first time you have seen these on a CC site. They have been around for ages. One site we visit (not a club site) which has a soakaway has had them for over 20 years. And they are also at the Elsan points on many sites.

Y-fronts? I can remember nearly loosing a terry nappy down the loo when rinsing a particularly dirty one.

we use them for step grandson who has leaning difficulties and still soils himself

Daughter buys a packet of small bags and they are put in one of those and disposed of in the rubbish . the same with his pyjama pull ups he wears at night .

He gets through many wipes during the day as they are kinder to his bum than toilet paper is.

He is encouraged too to clean himself up as he is now 13 , but this means he uses a LOT of wipes each time

Buy a set of rods. I've got a set and cleared Dau's when her drains got blocked.......not expensive about £20.

Could save you £200.

Perhaps its time "Bidets" were fitted as standard in all Houses and Flats, or those without them updated.

i shall carry on using them but be aware how to dispose of them now.... the manufacturers are being very misleading....

We had trouble twice a few years ago with the whole of the drain run being blocked up for about ten houses. Rodding the drains for each house revealed someone was putting disposable nappies down the loo. Only one house around the corner had a young child but the lady denied it was her. Well it couldn't have been anyone else as none of us had children at that time .All the houses clubbed together to pay the bill but the second time it was presented to the said lady and she was told its your bill.

She stopped putting them down plus was told no wipes either.

One neighbour bought a set of rods so he could sort out any future problems and not call out expensive drain clearers

In several parts of Spain, & I believe other Mediterranian countries, the drains won´t even take ordinary loo paper.
It has to be put in a bin situated at the side of the loo.
Not nice!!!

My cousin has a bidet (she lives in Essex).

It was in the house when they bought it. Moved in...... then realised the bidet wasn't connected! It just sits there :-D They use it.... as a magazine rack.

We had a blockage in the cul de sac drains and it was found to be caused by wipes. We asked our neighbour as she had grandson to stay a lot and she was using the children's ones for him,. The Anglian Water chap said it's a problem that's on the increase. The companies who produce these wipes and call them flushable should be made to pay the bills for the pipes to be cleared out, and shown the evidence!

People managed for a long time with ordinary loo roll, why are we (collective we) suddenly unable to cope without wipes and fancy loo paper?

Bring back bidets lol

I don't flush baby wipes (it says on the packet NOT to)....... but I thought the other ones were OK (it says so on the packet). No more.

As Island said....don't flush anything down the loo unless it's been eaten! That was drilled into me and my brothers when we were young.

thing is these wipes are also wonderful to use on the grandchildren...lol

i shall have to buy some small bins tomorrow....

i can't imagine anyone flushing a pair of y fronts away.... :-S

a friend of ours had continual toilet blockages, wasn't her drain but up the road a bit and it all backed up...........the drain man finally got to the " bottom" of the problem. was PAIR of Y front pants that was the culprit!!

three or four houses up!!

i have been using them in both toilets for years with no problem..., maybe they have changed the formula of the paper?
