Merlin Harold Steptoe has nothing on OH. We have a walled garden with outline planning permission for three house on it, what does he do, I'll leave you to guess and after I landscaped it and made it a lovely garden. All I want is to outlive him, even by a day and say see you can't have it with you where you've gone. However, then I would be left with the clearing up, a catch 22 situation. :-|

Every time I see this thread title I think of "Grannie Gave Birth To Tractor".

I'm sorry you are in this situation flying doctor but sad that young girls are still blindly heading off to be Mrs Hisname and lumber themselves with oafs and mummies boys.

I know this thread isn't supposed to be funny but it is an insight on how we all would react to the given situation.

Shortly after I got married, many moons ago, I was busy decorating whilst my husband sat and watched. Whilst still busy I was told to get the dinner on. I was furious as I was busy working but I didn't say a word. I did as I was told.
However when the meal went on the table, there was just one portion. Mine.-jl

Perhaps you should get a large tube of Superglue and glue his tools together or whatever, give him something to do instead of nicking your vac.Personally I would have thought you,d have gone out a bought the most expensive one available. :-D :-D

Hubby is a bit of a hoarder.

Many years ago when we hadn't been married that long , I took one of his old knitted jumpers that had big holes in the elbow and tied it around one of the old fashioned string floor mops so I could use it to buff up the red Lino we had on our living room floor This was way before fitted carpets when you had Lino and big sofa rugs on the floor.

It lasted a few days till he saw it and created a fuss and removed it from the mop saying that's my favourite jumper my mum knitted that . Well yes she did but it was when he was 14 and a lot slimmer and it had shrunk too so didn't fit him.
I pointed this out and the holed sleeves and was told you can darn them.

HE was promptly told you do one cos I ain't into darning .

He put back in his drawer without it being washed !and it was jealously guarded from then ,

I did though chuck it one day. And he never noticed it had gone for a long time

I have done that with other junk . It gets binned without him knowing cos he just puts things done and never remembers where so I can deny all knowledge of what he as done with things .

You have to be a bit clever with some hoarders in a quiet way .

I have been reading this thread with mounting horror!! :-0 :-0

It makes me realise just how lucky I am - my OH has his annoying moments, but nothing like this. He is a hoarder (it might come in useful one day) but I have access to all of it, if I want, and the only "rule" is that I don't throw anything out without asking first - which I think is fair enough.

Take care, Elaine, and keep your sense of humour. :-) :-)

Elaine, I know how difficult things are for you. I am not quite as restricted altho I do get a lecture at times, Sit down, I want to talk to you - like I am a five year old! Even if I am in the midst of cooking dinner or something, I am supposed to obey. Shame he wasn't as strict with his kids when they were running rings round him and their Mum.

Hope your leg is on the mend, do take care

Wait for him to leave the house, change the locks and let him live in his caravan, Garage or workshop or he could bu**er off in one of his 6 cars :-)

Does said vac have a powerful suction and one of those crevice nozzles? Would recommend waiting until the next time he has his back turned and is bending over ........

Think its called controlling behaviour. Would love my oh to hide all housework material. I would think I am on holiday lol Mine is controlling but to his own advantage.

Oh and Dizzi a vacuum is a thing that sucks up the muck and then gets it all over you when you empty it. :-D :-D

Knew I'd get a laugh with you lot and I needed one. Some of the suggestions are fab. My granddaughter found it for me and carried it up the stone steps. Carrying up is difficult owing to my having ruptured my hamstring 3 weeks ago. Now you tell me why if he could carry down a large upright vac, he couldn't manage a little stool if he needed it. I am :-S

Flying doctor.
don't worry about not knowing where to vac is. Either just stop vaccing or borrow once from a friend or neighbour one a week or so.

Also stay round the friend/neighbours place for a cup of tea and a chin wag each time you borrow and or return it.

Perhaps even go to lunch. (Even if it is just to the park with a picnic)

You need to claim some time and space for yourself - even if it is away from the house.

Hope that you are keeping well and that your OH decides that the vac is now in his way and returns it.

However if he ever does - if it was me, I would be tempted to ignore the said returned vac. and carry on with my new arrangement.

Whatever you do - DON'T ask him about it anymore. Act as if you never ever had one! :-D

Little wonder divorce rates are higher for the over 60's now.
