Of course, one also has to be mindful of online paranoia.
There is a very fine line and balance and (I hasten to add, on other sites and not this) I have seen those who are convinced that people are "out to get them" when it is patently obvious that that is not the case and, sometimes, even quite the opposite.

I'll just repeat a previous post......

See what I mean, be very careful on websites there are people who will source you out, put comments about where you live, put your name in threads, cryptic of course, now if you were a person who worried about your safety, that would be quite frightening I'd imagine. Luckily when it happened to me GR were aware, although I wasn't frightened, I was concerned for others.

I never correspond with the person who did this, but they still like to follow me about, bit like a lost sheep really, maybe they are looking for a shepherd, who knows.

Of course not.

Why on earth was that reported?
Somebody must have an itchy finger today.

None of us know really.... I could say I am Mary ann Maplethorpe living in Skegnees on the wold and could just as easily be Fred bloggsmith looking for a woman with a child to chat up.

as one of my friend s said when a photo of a bloke who had just been arrested for child pornography offences...."if I'd seen that photo on a dating site I would think he looked a nice kind guy".

Very true Sirius - male and female.

Sirius

Sirius Report 1 Jul 2014 14:21

Yep, male and female, either and both can turn out to be far from what you believed them to be.

Just a reminder, there are some odd folk out there, be careful how much information you give about yourself .

Keep safe

That's sick Mersey............but don't get scared, get angry <3

Sirius

Sirius Report 11 Jul 2014 17:21

But that is what many people do on here, the 'find living relatives' board is full of people looking up on FB etc, I've just done it myself. In order to try and locate someone I worked through details of their siblings etc and now know more than I really want to lol.

You might say it depends on the motive for checking someone out? ....but it is still uncomfortable really , to be 'prying' even though all the info is in the public domain, most of it posted by the persons themselves. Checking people out is something that is done everyday by companies and you only have to look at the way google ads work to be aware that really nothing you search for or say online is entirely 'private'.

and people can get harassed on this site too with unwanted messages which ridiculously GR are unable to stop - they used to be able to block fellow members from contacting you by message, but no longer it seems - what a poor site this is regarding proection of paying members

Mersey Report 11 Jul 2014 17:57

I actually thought GR had sorted this out !! All I was told to do was ignore which is easier said than done....but lets see what happens about that, hopefully GR are reading this as well

Sirius

Sirius Report 11 Jul 2014 17:59

I'm sure it must have been upsetting Mersey, I don't know the circumstances obviously. I was just pointing out how easy it has become to find out private details of people via the internet....not implying that this was the case for your sister.

If J and others have been banned for harassment on the boards, why can't GR ban for harassment by PM ?

Very odd behavior to pester by PM :-S
