Paula, I am glad your b.i.l. found new happiness.

My o.h.'s wife has just remarried, she has been with her new husband nearly as long as I have been with o.h. (I didn't have anything to do with the marriage break up) She lives just 5 mins drive away so we bump into her in the supermarket over the road and he sometimes calls her for info like finding out whether she has heard news of the imminent new arrival etc. It was nice to hear them reminiscing over the phone yesterday about the birth of the sons. This coming baby girl is nearly 4 days late now, hope she hurries up and arrives safely. It's a bit harded to keep in touch with the couple as they are in N.York.

I love my hubby to bits but he really annoys me as he always messes up the pages of the daily newspaper, he lets his cup of tea go cold and uses the remote control to flit from programme to programme......hmm, apart from these irritating things, he's lovely!

Liz I hope your friend will be able to manage on her oown and can enjoy her life, no one can truly know what goes on on other people's lives.

My sisters BIL married again a few years ago, he is very happy, but through his daughters he still has contact with his ex wife.

Annina, pmsl!

Paula, my friend worked once her son was old enough to leave and before that she looked after her own mother and then her mother in law till their deaths, in an annex they had built onto the house. Her o.h. worked from home, still does, as a surveyor or architect or something, can't remember what, but my friend wasn't always as ill as she is now. She and I have very similar illnesses but her's has been called M.E., mine is fm and cfs.

Brave of your sister's b.i.l. to change his life when he could. I don't think things were as bad with my friend and her o.h., they would holiday together and do separate things as well but she was always happy to socialise with the rest of his family. She has no siblings or family around her sadly but her s.i.l. took her in for several weeks till she got the studio flat.

Maybe things will sort themselves out and they will reunited, who knows but if not she does have friends around to support her.

I can't really complain about my OH - he is a diamond!

But for one thing, and he can't really help it. He suffers from rhinitis, and some days he just can't stop sneezing. I wouldn't mind, but he sneezes so loudly, they are explosive. Deafening! :-0 :-D ;-)

- Leaves banana skins around rather then take them out to the kitchen
- Won't squeeze a slice out of the heel of a loaf which is good enough for toast...or eat up snack sized left overs in the fridge.
- After taking his evening medication he leaves the empty glass on the work surface rather than put it in the dish washer. It's right where he was standing!
- Seems incapable of putting his clean clothes away in the bedroom.

I wouldn't swap him for the world :-)

Liz how very sad for your friend. She must be devastated.

My sisters BIL had a similar situation with his wife, he looked after her for years through many difficult times, she was extremely demanding and could be very difficult. She would not attend any family occasions and would not let him go, it was only when the girls started to want to go he used to bring them. He left her when their children finished school. He cared for his wife but he never really had any time for himself or a life of his own. After he left he used to go to see her regularly. One daughter stayed with her mother for a while but left when she found a flat. He is a very kind and loving man he adores his daughters as they do him. I have to say many of his family, friends and colleagues said they didn't know how he had coped for so long. We don't really know what goes on in other peoples live or the difficult choices they have to make. I sincerely hope that things will get better for your friend.

He never closes a drawer. Never. Unless he wants something from a lower drawer.

Then he leaves that one open.

Aah, it's nice that you would still chose your man Magpie. And the others mentioned on here who are still together despite the niggles.

A long time friend of mine was dumped by her husband of over 40 years last autumn, he manoevered her out of the house they moved to (swapped with their son and his growing family) and she is now in a sheltered housing studio flat.
He said he couldn't live with her anymore, she has anxiety problems and M.E. so he has had to do a lot for her in recent years but to suddenly flip like that has knocked her for six. They had just booked a holiday abroad for her birthday so that was cancelled and the money lost.

She is heartbroken and several so called friends have told her they are surprised he stuck her as long as he did, how unkind is that? And to make matters more confusing for the poor woman, aged 65, he (aged 67)sent an Anniversary card and a Christmas card To my dear Wife!

Obviously for him the niggles got too much to cope with. So sad.

My OH ALWAYS hangs his coat on the back of a chair! The utility room is right in front of the door FGS, but no, turn right and it's on a kitchen chair! He is the untidiest man in all England inside and out! Has finally conceded to being 'a bit' deaf AND wears H.aids for TV (famous victory!) BUT after 50 years (in Feb) of marriage, I can't complain, as he's always been a good and loyal and there when needed most, and if I had my time all over again I would still choose him as my life's companion.
