My hubby gets very grumpy the week before the full moon and I'm always pleased when it arrives because he is then nice again. I also have a Grandson who goes through the same thing. I tend to feel down at the time of the new moon.

Stubbornness is another characteristic wisechild. If he won't seek help, then you need to develop your own coping strategies - that is advice which is given for those who have partners on the spectrum.

It's things like avoiding situations which you know will cause trouble.......ignoring the tantrums by going out etc..etc....

Not much help but..........feel for you.... <3

The word "lunatic" is derived from the Latin for moon.

I think you should, worth a try anyway.xx

wisechild Report 24 Mar 2014 13:05

Have tried Kitty, but I don´t think she took me very seriously because she just prescribed tranquillisers for me. The only thing they did was ensure that I slept like a log.
My escape is the PC & my family history, plus the friends I have here who are very supportive.......at least I have friends.
We both have the same doctor & according to my OH she´s an idiot who knows nothing.
Maybe if I try again she will realise that I´m serious.

Oh wisechild, you both need happiness in your lives, I hope you find it soon.

Maybe you could speak to your own doctor and see if they can advise you on the best way forward.

Thanks for your thoughts Cynthia.
He´s not on any medication & refuses point blank to get any help for his depression, which he says is his problem & he´s dealing with it.Trouble is. he isn´t & it´s my problem too.
Think you could have a point about the autism though. He loses friends with amazing regularity mainly because he can´t accept that people can be friends without having the same opinions as him.
Meanwhile I keep my mouth shut & battle on.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 24 Mar 2014 08:43

Wisechild, could his medication be affecting him or, indeed, does he need more medication for an underlying problem?

Also, is there the possibility he could be on the autistic spectrum....they can be extremely moody and negative one moment, and the next they act as though nothing has happened.

I do hope you manage to find time to take care of yourself. xx

In answer to some of your questions.
Yes, he is a heavy drinker, but then, so are most Spaniards. Yes, he is depressed because he can´t find work. So are 5 million other Spaniards.
He has only been really bad for the past 3 years or so. Before we were married, he was moody, but not like this.
Yes, his pension is paid monthly & normally he has spent the part he keeps within a couple of weeks.
He can be really kind & careing when he wants. Unfortunately that´s not often & I´m always made to feel that the problems we have are all my fault.
We both have health problems which makes living alone an unattractive prospect.
Just wish he would accept the fact that he is too old now to find another jog & resign himself to retirement.

Strange but on reading this post - remembered working as a secretary for the Manager of a large factory but every now and then the Managing Director visited and the first you knew was this loud banging and kicking of walls as he progressed towards our office.

The junior managers of all three factories took note and swore it was at full moon. They used to ring around and warn everyone when a full moon was due - they were right.

Many years ago, there was a series of murders, at various places in the country when the only common link was that they all took place on the full moon. It took the police quite a while to connect them, but eventually it turned out that the murderer was a sailor on the same ship as OH.

OH had the job of escorting him to and from court for hearings. He was a very nice lad the rest of the time, but had this urge to kill on full moon nights. He ended up in Broadmoor, and was apparently quite relieved to have been caught.

The moon certainly seems to affect some people, although I don't have any idea why or how.

Moon or no moon, someone behaving that badly on a regular basis might be better off living alone.

There is a study here, by the looks of it, by Undergraduates. It's more a practice study than a full academic one.

http://jrscience.wcp.muohio.edu/nsfall99/FinalArticles/HumanBehaviorwithrelation.html

Part of the conclusion states "we were able to conclude, males are generally more dependent on the full moon while females were more dependent on the new moon."

They do list a large number of Sources of Error.

There numerous on-line articles debunking the theory that the cycles of the moon affect one's behaviour. You pays your money and you makes your choice! :-D

well....he might get paid monthly....some do.......sheesh!....I only asked %3A-S

I have already posted my own experiences on this thread by wisechild, or have you not noticed?

I always read through a thread ,taking in what others have posted before I add anything.

Obviously this is not a private thread, others have added their comments and opinions since 15.53 so I wonder why you have asked the question.....................

Susan10146857 Report 23 Mar 2014 20:01

I am sorry Joeva......you seem upset over something or other. I merely answered a thread thinking it was ok to post on it giving an opinion to a query asked by the Poster. Of course if this is a private thread and the poster wishes me to delete because it is a sensitive subject, then I will do so.

As it happens, I was trying to be supportive in my own way by eventually adding some tales of my own experiences.....but hey ho I will leave you to discuss the delicacies with deeper soulfulness than I can offer.

Joeva

Joeva Report 23 Mar 2014 19:38

Ask away Susan with numbers ....... most people get their pensions paid monthly ...... it is up to wisechild to say if this might be the reason he takes himself off to the spare room without explanation.

All I can say again is that I am very sad for wisechild to have to put up with this behaviour from a man that she has only been married to for 5 years and hope she takes care of herself..
