I just do not think that the BBC should be using their main news channel for non stop wall to wall coverage of any issue, there are other things happening around the world and here in the UK every single day, maybe they should have a separate channel for this sort of wall to wall coverage.

The BBC seem to have lost the plot completely over what is regarded as 'important news' to the British public.

But then again Auntie Beeb has changed so much over the years.

When I don't want to watch something, even on the news, I don't watch it, I either turn off turn over, or leave the room.

I'm finding the prosecution questions very interesting, I can't say I'm enjoying the trial, it's about someone who has died, but I'm finding it all very enlightening. It's real life, unlike a lot of other rubbish on the TV, it's not a soap, talent show, or put on reality TV, it's what's really happening in the world.

I'm not watching because it's a famous athlete on trial, I'm watching because I'm learning about what the justice system is like in another Country.

struth - put the news on to see what's been happening in the world at large and what do I get - flippin' Oscar P yet again - this is ridiculous

Having worked for years for a major commercial news network I can assure AnnCardiff that news networks focus very closely on what their viewers are interested in. They are not very interested in murky doings of the Russian army, Afghan elections. science and so on. Mass human suffering eg Syria, starving people and so on also gets poor audiences.

By and large number 1 spot is always taken by sex / murder / corruption scandals and cases involving celebrities.

Of course some people find this sort of thing tedious and boring but in this day and age there are plenty of alternative news.

The iron law of mass market news I am afraid is that news about the many = boring, news about an individual = interesting. News about facts off scale for boring - that is why politicians survive being strung up.

News networks always try and link any story to real people rather than the abstract. The price of advertising slots varies with the level of interest, all you need to know really ;-)

Ann will no doubt be elated to know that following the current case we shall be getting months more of South African murder trials following the recent deportation of Shrien Dewani.
