Anthony Report 7 Aug 2014 17:34

Hi

This is a tough one. My mum was adopted Rosemary Kelly b 1961 and her twin Kathleen Kelly (not adopted). I have recently found out that they had a brother Michael John Kelly b 28/3/1961 born in Fulham but he went to stay with my mums aunt Mrs Dowdell. Basically my nan left my mum and aunt in Queen Marys Maternity Home and didn't come back. I have searched addresses that my nan Theresa Kelly born 16/9/38 and granddad Wilfred Martin 23 years were staying and names that came up were John Kelly, John Blake Michael Blake, Rose Dowdell.

It cant be a coincidence that the people Theresa was staying with share first names with my uncle Michael and my mum Rose.

As I am writing this, a possible thought popped in my head. What if Theresa and Wilfred got married? So I think I might check this out.

Any help would be grateful. I am not expecting them to be found, that would be a miracle after searching for 17 years but anything would be great.

Thank you

Have you checked out the electrol roll for for that period of time ?

and what did you want in the way of info?

The twins and Michael born the same year?

Anthony Report 7 Aug 2014 18:55

Hi

Thank you for replying. Any info, many with Wilfred and Theresa really. Birth, marriage, death. I have searched everywhere. The twins were born 61 and Michael in 1960. Wilfred was Church of England and Occupation was Chef U.C.H. What can this be? hospital? I have checked the Electron roll and under the addresses given, the names in my post all came up but have no idea who they are. only matching names to possibilities really i.e Rose Dowdell could be my mums aunt.

I have just come to a stand still with this and need a new lead really.

pretty quick pregnancies!

the twins births should have been registered in the June quarter 1961, although they were registered late, in the next quarter, according to freebmd

June quarter covers June, July and August.

If Michael was born 28 February ...............

having said that ............... I'm not quite sure what or who you are looking for

are you looking for Kathleen and Michael?

OR to find out the name of the father(s)?

It should be easy to find out if Theresa and Wilfrid married ................. just go to www.freebmd.org

that site is free, and has records from July 1 1837, to currently about 1970/75

For records from 1970 to 2005, you have to search on ancestry ...records after 2005 will not be put online

I think you need to stay with your thread as I cant find any of these peoples registrations

if you are here we can at least ask you questions and you are able to help us

Hi

The twins were premature born 12/6/61 and on the birth certificate says registered 25 Sept 1961. It says on the paperwork dated the 6/9/61 that the mother could not be found so that must mean that the mother did not register them, it was someone else. Could the Council or hospital step in with registering?

Sadly my aunt Kathleen past away a few years ago who I was always in touch with since birth. I only found out about Michael a few years ago and have never meet so would be good to meet him.

Did I miss what area? The U.C.H to me is University College Hospital in London - just in the Camden Catchment - Its where the brother I am searching for was born.

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Aug 2014 22:27

Anthony ..............

if the twins were abandoned, I assume they would ahve been taken into care, and either a social worker or someone from the hospital would have registered.

Do the certificates not say who the informant was?

My grandfather's birth certificate from 1872 has a column .............. column 7 ............. headed

Signature, Description and Residence of Informant

that usually is the mother ............... but that is where I would expect something different on the twins

Anthony Report 7 Aug 2014 22:40

Hi Maddie

The paperwork says U.C.H Chef for Wilfred Martin under occupation. Always wondered what is was. Thanks for this.

Hi Rambling

Yes Michael was born in 1960 and the twins were born in 1961

Hi Sylvia

Yes, the name is Barbara M Williams. This must be the person who registered them. The Council social services didn't know who this could be.

Is it ok to answer the questions in one reply? Thought it would be easier

Anthony Report 7 Aug 2014 22:50

The twins were baptised as well before they went to social service in the sept 61. Can anyone baptise a child or does the parents deffo have to do it? the baptisim was between 12/6/61 - 6/9/61 They were at the Queen Marys Maternity Home during this time.

I also noticed that on the Record of Application for SS it says 'Application has to-day been made by Sister, Queen Marys Maternity Home'. I put this down as a 'Ward Sister'. Could this be the birth mother sister?

KempinaPartyhat Report 7 Aug 2014 22:53

where did Mrs dowdell live?

Anthony

Anthony Report 7 Aug 2014 22:57

Sorry Kempina, I missed your message. The twins were fostered together. Kathleen left the foster home due to friction when she was 14 years old. My mum Rosemary stayed because she was afraid to leave. The foster parents adopted my mum just before her 18th Birthday which I thought was odd. This could either be:

Birth mother not allowing the adoption
or
Foster parents wanting to keep the money coming in as long as possible

Birth mothers name on Twins certificates is Theresa Kelly
Name on Michaels is spelt Teresa Kelly but living addresses are the same on both

KempinaPartyhat Report 7 Aug 2014 23:09

I am looking for Theresa Kelly d.o.b 16.9.1938, she gave up my mum Rose and her sister Kathleen who are twins up in 1961. I have discovered that she had a older son called Michael Kelly who i think was born in 1960 who was living with Theresa's Aunt who was called Mrs. Dowdell which i believe were living at 14 Edinbourgh Ave, Doncaster at the time. Theresa's grand Mother called Mrs.Blake lived at 77 Moore Park Rd S.W 6 at this time as well. We believe there father is called Wilfred Martin but have no other record of him other then that he was a U.C.H Porter or a U.C.H Chef. They were born in Queen Marys Maternity Home, Health Rd N.W 3

But in 2009 you posted this

Now if we dont know where MICHAEL JOHN KELLY is how can we look for himas it seems its him you would like to find ,... Which makes this search very difficult because we will find if hard to match a michael born in london gone to Doncaseter possibly married in either to give to you to look further

all info is needed to build a tree to gather info to find the right Michael John Kelly

Anthony Report 7 Aug 2014 23:11

Hi Kempina

Mrs Dowdell Relation to Theresa Kelly was 'Aunt' 14 Edinburgh Ave. Doncaster. Michael John Kelly was living with her when the twins were born.

I looked at addresses and possible names could be:

Rose Dowdell/Dowdall

Another name that came up was:

Mrs Blake Relation to Theresa Kelly was Grandmother 77 Moore Park Rd, SW6
Theresa was living there at one point. Other names under this address was John Blake, Rose Dowdell/Dowdall and Michael Blake.

Another address on the records was:
45 Brecknock Road NW5 and the name under this address was John Kelly.

All these names must be connected to Theresa Kelly and looks like my uncle and mother were named after these people so must of been close to Theresa.

Another then I thought about, yes Theresa Kelly left the twins in the hospital but named them first! Why name them if you were just going to leave them anyway.

Sooooo many questions that cant be answered.

KempinaPartyhat

KempinaPartyhat Report 7 Aug 2014 23:18

and all these names need matching and looking up on the electrol roll to see if a patten comes out

Sorry its to late now for me to do this

I found one relly by doing this as they lived next door to one i thought I remembered so it can be done but time is what is needed

also Michael is probably still alive so put him on the living relatives board

Great, will do Kempina. Thank you. I visited the metropolitan archives and looked under the address Theresa was staying at that were mentioned in the report. Those names were listed under them.

Thank you all for helping and staying up this late.
