Globe beetroot doesnt have to be delegated to a backgarden they can be grown in amongest a flower bed or border as long as they have a good forked over space and sow abt 7" apart......,pick the leaves at about 9/10 weeks, the beets can be grated and eaten raw in salads or used in a quick stir fry..sow now, about 9/10 seeds at one time,a packet will give a full summers need,

I use about 4x5. of allotment space and takes me into aumtum for pickling.

Rollo, no one has said they should eat a diet suitable for only herbivores. 'Greens' of most persuasions are a good source of roughage and vitamins.
Try cutting out the thick stems, shredding finely and either using in a stir fry or steaming & seasoning. You could always try mixing in some crushed garlic ;-)

Kay - still not enough room. We'd never eat all the roots. We actually spotted small bags of Swiss Chard on sale in an organic food shop today. At £1.95 for 2 small portions, it stayed there.

I am sorry, I have lied to you all.

Have double checked on the article in the paper and they are only 99p a bag.

Is it any wonder that the supermarkets make no profit when they try to sell bags of tuf (sic) inedible greens?

Maybe they know the difference between broccolli and kale.
