Tea just isn't gonna be the same

Choppers was put to sleep after suffering from heart and kidney failure, the zoo confirmed.

At age 48, the chimp had a colourful life appearing in the famous PG Tips adverts which ran from the 1960s to 1980s.

The chimp first came to attention of zoo keepers at Twycross in Leicestershire after he was rescued from poachers in Liberia by a British couple.

Her caretakers say she was known for her gentle nature.

In 2014, the zoo said the decision to promote the apes on television had been wrong and that the animals were affected as result.

Last January, Choppers returned to the small screen in a Channel 5 documentary charting the story of the lives of the original PG Tips chimps.

I loved the pg monkey

My aunt ordered me a book with brook bond the monkey in with my name, address n two friends names in, I thought it was amazing, n still have it... At mums lol

I remember seeing "chimps tea party" on tv when I was a child (in the 1950s)

I must have been the only one not laughing. I couldn't see anything funny about chimpanzees throwing food at each other.

I don't think those parties happen nowadays.

I went the chimps tea party as a child Lady S what i thought really funny was when one of the chimps tried to run away But was taken back to the table it took off its nappy and showed off its Butt

Years ago, PG Tips gave away chimps in cars, I think six different ones in all. I still have a set in their original boxes.
