100% agree with Island and Tenerife Sun.

There are just too many faults and too little attention paid to them to make GR viable, even the facility to add keepsafe photos to your tree is hit and miss, sometimes they attach sometimes they don't.

The lack of a working advanced search is particularly frustrating to those trying to help with queries ( and no doubt for those new members hoping to use it to find family!)

Put all the money into FMP (which is also not without its faults!) and provide the same community boards there, as Island says, at low cost. It's increasingly obvious that GR is being sidelined ( yes even on the FB page ) so why wait?

I don't have a problem with messages. I also have a sub to Find My Past

What I would really like from GR is HONEST and TRUTHFUL answers to members questions not the usual automated replies which never answer the question and are an insult to our intelligence.

I also have a +1 and no unopened messages. It doesn't bother me other than I think it looks lazy and neglectful on GRs part.

Actually, I think the whole site has tumbleweed rolling around. So much of it hasn't worked for years. Call it a day and put low cost community boards on FMP.

I thought at one time, that was tied up with your (my) Email, until I had read both, the +1 was there

Don't really have any problems apart from as previously mentioned about the message Icon +1(or how ever many) doesn't go when they are read. Could take days sometimes.

BTW GRSA still has Xmas decs up. :-0

Hello Estelle, welcome back.

I don't send/receive lots of messages, but have little problem when I do. My attachments seem to work OK too.

The last time I logged in was, I think, in October, 2015, when we upgraded to Windows 10. The time before that is anyone's guess.

I too still have one message shoowing when I know I have answered all messages.

I would like to be able to add emoticons to messages, otherwise I don't really have a problem with them. I would not like to see them disappear though.

Separate point. We have a lot of speculation about mergers with FMP etc. It might be useful in some ways but DON'T lose anything in the message system which is one of GR's great virtues, the mutual help and advice of members who can put people on the right track.

If there was some way to sort the Find Ancestors and Find Living Relatives boards vy the surname of who is being sought it would vastly increase the chance of a hit.
As it is, unless you read the boards on virtually a daily basis there is no hope of finding anybody.

Ancestry-s last logged in isn't accurate as many people on there and on GR here! never log out

It is absurd that people have to be paying members in order to post/send messages. RootsWeb for instance has no such condition.

The disorganisation of messages sent / received is impressive. Why on earth messages cannot be organised by cascaded thread showing boith sent/received I don't know.

Shared threads would be a very good thing esp for "Find Ancestors".

However when GR asks about a feature the usual reason is that it is about o be chopped off ( remember maps, printing ? ) . FMP does not have a message feature. So I am noit exaclty holding my breath that the feature will be improved. I guess somewhere there is a memo circulating on the pros and cons of replacing GR messaging with FB. After that just folding the product into FMP woujld be ezpz
