I always wanted to do the sea trip to St Helena aboard the mail ship. Unfortunately St Helena now has a landing strip and the mail ship no longer runs. |

The mail ship delivered to Tristan da Cunha as well. That is a place I have always been intrigued by. The population was evacuated to the Portsmouth area in about 1961 when the volcano threatened to erupt. |

You are right, Det. It was St Helena where landing on the new airstrip proved to be hazardous. I take an interest in St Helena news because I have a friend from there who has lived here for many years now. |

It used to sail from Weymouth and the trip took three months. It was a three month trip of joy from what I read. Own steward, beef tea, a library, deck quoits. |
