I would miss GR if I did not renew, but I am getting tired of having to answer for GR, and the evenings (my time) are frankly boring now when they used to be very busy.

Why not stay on GR. I would be very sorry to see you leave

There are a lot of genealogy sites on Facebook where people would value the help of an experienced researcher.

SC.

Well? Only a few days to go. Decision taken?

I renewed not that long ago – and only because I have always kept my prime tree on here. But with the ongoing GR system problems I recently exported a .ged and now have my prime tree on my pc.
Those with free membership can look at the boards. And as I do not post that much I presently see no reason to put any more cash into the GR coffers. Newbies looking for assistance? Few if any.

My wife does her own Irish history. She found the following (Tribe means the Irish Tribes.):-

WE ARE THE CHOSEN IN EACH FAMILY
THERE IS ONE WHO SEEMS CALLED TO FIND THE ANCESTORS
TO PUT FLESH ON THEIR BONES AND MAKE THEM SEEM ALIVE AGAIN
TO TELL THE FAMILY STORY AND TO FEEL THAT SOMEHOW THEY KNOW AND APPROVE
DOING GENEALOGY IS NOT A COLD GATHERING OF FACTS
BUT INSTEAD BREATHING LIFE INTO ALL WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE
WE ARE THE STORYTELLERS OF THE TRIBE

I am due to renew my subscription in the middle of this month but I don't think I shall do so.

My OH has joined Ancestry so I shall be using his site to search.

Can anyone amswer this query?

I don't have my up-to-date tree on Genes but if I rejoined GR, will the information I have on there still be available to me?

Your tree will, but if you've accessed records via a platinum sub or current credits, they will have disappeared.

Will my messages still be there too, Det?

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 6 Sep 2016 17:42

Yes they will be - lapsed subscribers can retrieve and send messages to people who are in their Contact lists. As a Free member, you won't be able to initiate new contacts but can reply to messages sent to you.

There is one previso - if the other party has had a tidy up and deleted messages from their end, you won't be able to read them unless you send them a new message. That's no problem as long as they are still in your Contacts list. If they've deleted that as well, you're up a creek without a paddle

mine runs out soon .... as usual I haven't got around to a lot of stuff to do with shared trees so i'll have to renew or they will put up the price again.

the trouble with F.H. is that it is like a giant crossword or jigsaw puzzke and finding the time to consider all the straggly bits and pieces and the strange and wonderful (sometimes) things they got up to is not very easy.

it might get easier as London entertainment of all kinds goes on being shut down by the London. met , noise abatement and property developers such that F.H. on a Saturday night is the most thrilling game in town.

I once stayed with some rellies in a suburb in an Alberta town. If things go on as now London will be just as bad but prob not as boring as Owlesbury where I was yesterday. What with the heat 'n all we ended up on a steam train in Swanage ... all that was needed was Doc and an AMC deLorean.

At any even I achieved a life long ambition and got to wear blue heans and eat ice cream in BR first class rolling stock.
