The only options for the hme FAs is to appeal and then if they lose pay the fine to FIFA. Any other course could end up with any of bigger fine / suspension from international soccer inc World Cup / foreign players no longer allowed to work in the UK / suspensions from Champions League. None of this would go down very well with the half of the country which loves the game.

The FA are taking the very sensible course of appeal / paying the fine if unsuccesful (likely) and then getting some sort of agreement for future events. I wouldn't rate their chances as very good. However FIFA could not do much about a strip all Flanders red or what the spectators wear. There is more than one way to sking a mackerel.

The overall business model of FIFA whereby the leading football nations of South America and Europe are controlled by and fund (legally and illegally) a beano for everybody else is obviously broken. It is curious that nobody seems willing to break ranks despite the fall of Sepp Blatter et al.
