I haven't heard about that forecast, but I really hope they have got it wrong AnnC.

I have just looked at the next 14 days for my bit of Scotland and the lowest midday temperature is 1°C.

Which bit of the UK are they talking about? :-(

We have had snow twice since Christmas
fortunately it didn't lay for long

As the rain that followed washed it all away :-D :-D

You only have to google his name and you'll find 'hits' for a right ding-dong about his last years' predictions. His forecasts appear in the Daily Express.

His Twitter posting suggests that a Polar Vortex will hit in the next 7 days. Strange that. The Metoffice says
"...turning colder later on Wednesday." then a mix of frost, snow showers, wind, rain and milder weather.

Your typical British winter really.

Take it with a pinch of salt (or maybe a large bag in case he turns out to be right). Yes I have seen that forecast in the papers but no mention by the Met forecasters as yet.

The BBC weather forecast now says that a Polar Vortex will spread from the north on Thursday. However, they aren't predicting such low temperatures as Nathan Rao.

AnninGlos - we have an ancient bag of rock-salt stored next to our side gate. Its been so long since it might have useful that for all we know it could have gone rock-solid.

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 8 Jan 2017 19:58

Not till October though Dermot, a lot of weather to come before that. That storm wasn't the strongest wind in UK as a couple of years later a stronger wind hit Scotland.

I know because my OH was in both :-S

:-)

Tentatively- snow in the north & NW of Scotland, NW Wales & on the moors in SW England by the end of the week. But they're still not sure.

Could Nathan Rao have thought GB would be under the weather system effecting mainland Europe? Whatshername on the BBC says ours is a different one.

'There's always some kind of weather this time of year'!

AnnCardiff Report 9 Jan 2017 12:55

Steven Keates, from the Met Office, said: "On Thursday the showers spread further south and east, putting most places at risk of showers.

"It is going to turn much chillier, particularly through Thursday and Friday. Some areas could see snow, and some pretty significant snow."

He added: "Most places are at risk. By Thursday and/or Friday, I think most places will stand risk of seeing something a bit wintry - sleet or snow."

Temperatures are not set to dip too low this week, but the wind - and some risk of gales across Scotland - will make it feel colder than it is.

Mr Keates said: "Next weekend we could be into minus double figures overnight. But this week it will be more about the feel, rather than the temperatures."

According to the maps, its not going to severely effect all of the country, not even within Wales. . Don't you just love the online regional press? They delight in making everything sound far worse than it might be.
