I am working my way through her notes, and I think she was more mad after they had finished with her!

I think she had only had a bit of a breakdown. Worrying about my 3xGreat Uncle's health and their reduced circumstances as he was no longer able to work by the sound of it.

I think a lot of her ramblings actually make sense when you analyse them. Particular with her consulate background. Probably witnessed some bad stuff.

She was talking about different coloured squares. The squares were handkerchiefs and the colours represented good, clean or bad. Black were the "police (ie siege)" possibly referring to colonial rule to the native peoples.
