I really don't know why the media thought we wanted so much coverage.

When I looked at the BBC website the following morning the story was just No 7 of the top ten most popular news items people had looked at. An article about Brad Pitt was higher up the chart.....!

IPG, at around 1 pm I was held up on the boulevard by a couple of police outriders, two cars and a unmarked police car...any idea who might've been passing through?

A pompous and often rude man, but I loved him, loved his off the cuff humour, his gaffs (which were not gaffs but miss understood humour) . The man was a saint with what he had to put up with and still smile. At the last when asked so you are standing down , he said Well I can no longer stand up :-)

I do hope he has a happy retirement., but continues to make me laugh

Prince Philip is a real person, it showed and mostly for the good. When he did make one of his famous gaffes it only reflected what most of the country thought!

He was not pompous at all but could be extremely rude to peole who were - officials, politicians mostly. He moved heaven and earth for all sorts of movements for young people but kept a low profile. I had the privilege of meeting him briefly twice, once in following the DofE award scheme and many years later on a horse carriage day. He has real magnetism.

Def a guy entitled to his 15 minutes of media fame. I hope he trundles on for a while yet.

Rollo I apologise for calling him pompous, maybe that wasn´t quite the right word.
But he did live a charmed life that he was born into an that did reflect in the person he was . He was ·rude· even to the little man but I don´t believe he ever meant to be, it was just his humour, and let´s be fair to the man by nature of birth he was slung into the lime light , like it or not.
I liked him and can only wish him gaffes and all well :-D

I wish him Good Luck and I hope he can relax and enjoy his retirement. It has been
a long time coming. He does well for a 96 year old gentleman. The Queen also does well imho, having reached her 91st year last month. I admire the two of them, they both work hard and I for one certainly wouldn't want to change places with them.

My late husband met Prince Phillip on two occasions . First time was at a House of Lords dinner where they were introduced and chatted briefly. The second time was at a business lunch where again my husband was introduced and the Prince remarked that they had met before. Very impressive when you think of the number of people he has met during his public life.
