When I moved here from the noisy south, I too couldnt sleep as in my other house there was only silence as we were on the edge of a moor with no road. Took me months to get used to the quietness.

However whenever I have come down south, i hate the noise and can never sleep.

The cattle grid is like a rumble depending on how fast the cars go over it :-D
But that is the only noise apart from a helicopter now & then on a shout.

I used to live parallel to the M3 - above it, so the noise reverberated through the houses. The M3 wasn't there when I initially moved there :-|

A few years later, the planes for Southampton Airport were re-directed - so they followed the M3 :-| :-| :-|

I realised, when I moved here, how disturbed my sleep had been.
It is silent here.
The odd train goes by, about a quarter of a mile away, but I only hear them if the wind is in the 'right' direction.

As a child, one place we lived had a wonderful view of Fawley Power Station.
The flame would light up my bedroom, ad when they had a test - the flame could be heard.
Then there were the fires. The fire engines from most of Hampshire would speed down the road behind our garden, sirens blaring :-| :-| :-| :-|

When I was a child my uncle was the headmaster of a school in Lambeth and the headmaster's house was built into the side of the support wall of the railway bridge just outside Waterloo station. The trains ran every two minutes from 4am - 2am and the noise was incredible.

I went to visit for a long weekend and didn't sleep at all for the first two nights, then I found I was getting used to it and woke up when the trains stopped!! My cousins didn't even notice it, but used to comment on how quiet it was when they visited us.

Clank! Clank!

When I was young and one of the airports changed its landing path planes seem to come over reducing height so I thought they were going to land on the A3. Not funny when lying in bed trying to get to sleep.

Nowadays we get all sorts flying over, even military helicopters going from one place to another. There is also an evening private ‘copter most nights at 10.30. After that I don’t notice.

My mums flat is on a main rd that lorries use for a short cut to the M25 and in the flight path of Gatwick airport. Last time I visited, I never slept a wink for the noise. I guess when I lived down south I must have been so caught up with the noise, I never noticed it until I moved and went back to visit.

The only noise I hear late at night is a few cars passing as there is a cattle grid right near my home and that noise is annoying!

Ah, didn’t realise it was frozen - that might help. Just need a padlock on the freezer ;-)

I agree, cheesecakes used to cut into more portions.

Where am I from. Not where I live now , which the weather forecasters call the M4 corridor. I’ve decided that my neighbour isn’t constantly on a motor racing game, even when she is at work and that some of the noise must come from the motorway which is about 10 minutes away.
I grew up listening to the traffic on the A3 whilst trying to get to sleep, then it was foghorns in East Kent. Can’t seem to get away from background noises.

Added: thinking about it the motorway is actually much closer than the junction I was thinking about.

Well as it is frozen when you buy it, you could with a sharp knife cut it in half. Put one half in freezer and the other 1/2 in fridge. I had mine in the fridge for 4 days. I ate 1 1/4 and another day had the other 1/4 and on day 4 ate half !!

I'm sure cheesecakes used to be so much bigger??? I used to get 6 portions i'm sure of a strawberry one from Tesco and served with ice cream made a reasonable sized desert?

Glad you found the laundry liquid names but sorry for you it leaked....grrrr

What area of the uk are you from?

nameslessone Report 21 Jun 2023 14:44

Well I can confirm the Boots Senisitve laundry liquid doesn't have a smell. I've not used it yet but it leaked in my shoping bag. :-|
I forgot to ask how bad the 'road to Aldi' was this morning, as a I had a big shop to do I went to Boots. But will try the Aldi one another time.

Another question - if you are really really good how long does the salted caramel cheescake keep ( that's keep - not last ;-)) if only one person can eat it? I'm only asking 'cos it sounds yummy.

Yes, I agree and that's what they used to do. Who are we to query the odd ways of those who decide the so-called best way to do things? :-) :-)

Wouldn't it just be easier to reduce the whole bill by the amount of the voucher at the end of the receipt?

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 19 Jun 2023 11:50

Re my original post, todays invoice has everything reduced and I used a voucher to help pay for it. I think Londonbelle was right and the voucher is split among every item!! :-S

That salted caramel cheesecake is disgustingly yummy, isn't it?
It's such a shame, when you live alone, that it has to be eaten quite quickly (not) :-D :-D

Florence61 Report 18 Jun 2023 17:11

Maggie, I ate some of the salted caramel cheesecake last night and it was delicious. having the rest tonight with strawberries...yummy :-D

But I did manage to finally get the large bottle of colour laundry liquid.

Didnt get any prices reduced though :-(

Maggie, I have just made last minute changes to my list for tomorrow and can only get the non bio Tesco one. Its just its such a good price compared to all the branded ones which some are like £9.00 now and I refuse to pay that!!£3.42 for Tesco own brand.

My bill this week is £80 eeek seems I had ran out of everything especially bacofoil, clingfilm, oil and several other things which we cant eat lol. Oh well that's how it goes, the next order in 2 weeks will be much lower.

I use it, Florence, and could only get a small one last week.

nameslessone Report 14 Jun 2023 17:29

No, but I uses Waitrose sensitive non bio which is ok for daughters skin and has absolutely no smell. Really annoyed that it isn’t available. Wonder what is going on.

Tried Fairy non bio pods - they stunk the house out. Even double rinsing or hanging them out didn’t help. So now have some coop sensitive, not as bad but still smells of soap.

Why do manufacturers think we all need to have smelly products like perfumed laundry liquids and room freshners. If you need those ok but surely most of us aren’t ‘t that smelly.. My clothes are now coming out of the washer smellier than when they went in.

Just out of interest, does anyone use Tesco colour laundry liquid? I havent been able to get any for 3 weeks as says out of stock!

Not had any extra reductions at all, maybe it was just in specific areas but very strange.
