Good morning, Day 7 today and really pleased with myself, went out last night and had a few beers, non smoking bar but they stand outside and smoke, was not tempted at all. A friend came to say hi and she stank to high heaven of cigs... mm think I prefer the non smoking smell. Keep up the good work everyone. Debs x Bought 2 more weeks of patches yesterday.

Well done deb and all the rest, It's supprising how quickly to regain the sense of smell and once you have got it and you smell how other smokers are, it makes a good reason to keep on not smoking, the hardest thing I found was buying the first set of patches, when I did stop smoking the patches were the cost of a week supply, so I was afraid if they did not work I had wasted all that money, but fortunately they did, before stopping I went to a clinic for stopping smoking and I had to blow in to a meter and I had one of the highest readings, 6 months later the reading was the lowest. OK chaps....I have been a smoker since I was seventeen - that's 33 years and I dearly want to stop. I stopped for four months in 2004. Just stopped dead, didn't actually miss them, had no cravings and all went well for about three months. Then I started getting horrendous panic attacks, so bad I couldn't function. Went to the doc and he offered me sleeping tablets.(I could sleep OK - in fact at times that was about all I could do!). I've tried the NHS smoking cessation group but they're only interested in handing out patches and as I now stick religiously to 5 a day and have psoriasis they won't give me patches. Stuck in a vicious circle - would love not to smoke but equally cannot spend my life curled up in a ball in the corner. Any ideas? Sheila

Down to five a day so gum too strong. Too much nicotine in it. Made myself sick when I tried it. My point is that not smoking is the easy bit. Dealing with the anxiety proved impossible and I couldn't get any help... Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Sheila

I've just completed day 26 now of being smoke free and down to 6 pieces of gum, not bad after 50 years of smoking, I'm quite proud of myself.

Morning to all and a welcome to Trish,,,,50 years! That even beats me, I had smoked for 44 years an am now five years free! Sometimes I cant believe it myself and the beauty of it is I dont even think about them now. At first I often used to dream of cigarettes, and enjoy other people's smoking! Now, I find it disgusting. You are all getting there, it's not easy, but it does get better:-) Have a lovely Tuesday. XX BC

Debbie Report 15 Apr 2006 16:40

James, Yes it was Laurel and Hardy, and the mountains are beautiful, it only takes a couple of hours to get there (mind you they go on for miles and miles). I cant believe im on day 14 already, though I wish the family would show some encouragement, im sure they think that after a day without you have cracked it!! Tried to explain to hubby how hard it is at times.. Debs x
