Bob, if you get in over there can you let them know Ive got me nose pressed up against the window still. Many thanks.

As Bob has said, many of us still come on GR as its a different type of site so its not like FTF people are segregated in any way. I like seeing some old friends on here just as I enjoy my old mates on FTF.

Sorry but it really isn't our fault. We're not enjoying ourselves over there, honestly.

Thanks for copying the notice, not sure how we are supposed to read it if we cannot get on.

It is the majority of members who cannot get in (not sure about mods and scads) because I have just spoken to a member who can get in and they say it is VERY VERY quiet.

Site Access Problems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The current issues that some members are experiencing when trying to access FTF are, unfortunately, outside of our control.

The main DNS server that resolves the sites URL into an IP address is experiencing problems, and its owners are working to rectify this.
The majority of members still seem to be able to access the site as their ISPs are routing page requests via servers that have the IP address of the site cached.
Family Tree Forum has no control over this process

We will provide an update on the situation as soon as we can.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 17 Nov 2007 18:46

The notice was posted so that members could copy it to those who can't get in, Tom.

Most of the mods and scads seem to be able to get in. It's very quiet on the boards, though.

Maybe you could send e-mails to people and let them know because not everyone has MSN or comes on here and it would be nice to let them know, I don't think it would be too difficult to do from your hotmail account and you have everyones e-mail addresses.

IF it is quiet that would suggest that it is the majority of poeple who cannot get in, not a minority as is said in that message.

Can Tim not change the server or something?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 17 Nov 2007 18:55

Tom,

The site owners decided in the very early days not to mass email members from the site as it could be considered spam and would often go straight into people's spam boxes.

There is no way anyone has the time to email all the members from the hotmail account which is just for moderation issues.

Changing the server can only be done by the owner and isn't a simple thing - it's why we were offline for most of the day a few Sundays ago.

actually, part of the registration process was agreeing to have e-mails from the "Site Owners" Maybe if they came back something could be sorted out?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 17 Nov 2007 18:57

They've never been away, Tom, and are aware of what is happening.

No offence to ftf, but this is not the first time, but then I'd only use the site for genealogy and wiki,

Hi again,

Sorry but it's not our fault. As was said earlier, it's a server problem and out of our control.

I'm off back to my sick bed.

I hope you all get in again soon.
