just a question, for copd sufferers, apart from breathing problems, how else do you suffer?

I run out of steam quite rapidly, even tying shoelaces, putting on socks gets me out of breath,
I can walk as if there is nothing wrong, but cannot run more than a few yards, even walking quickly(or trying to) gets me breathless....

(Spiriva/ Cerutide 250) cerutide CAN give you thrush in the throat, so Drs advice is to have a good drink after taking puffs.....

I take seretide 250 (magic for my asthma) but my voice is husky. Saw specialist and he says Seretide may well be the cause of it as everything else is OK.

Are there other members out there suffering or have a family member suffering from COPD
Since last Autumn my OH has been on several different steroids and antibiotics taken orally and in nebulizers, continually , none of which are helping very much.

Also has anyone heard of a lung fungus which has gone into the bloodstream.

Maybe this is a long shot but thanks anyway :-)

Now you have progressed from Chronic Asthma to COPD there should be so much more help availably to you through the PCT & specialist nursing.

Sam - only trying to draw people's attention as to what is available - took the info from web re Seretide from web. Agree everyone is different - however - drs. can sometimes overprescribe with using several inhalers or even as was found out when I collapsed some 4 years ago to be told that the medication my Dr (at that time) had me on was oldfashioned and out of date - I do not know what damage that caused to my lungs. I was horrified to find that Seretide 50 had this info on it.

I first had asthma when the only ease was Friars Balsam steamers and 5 and 6 pillows to prop up against. I was informed about 3 years ago that people of my age who had had chronic asthma as children that their lungs were badly damaged then. My only advice is listen to your body - query your medication if you are not happy - the gp cannot possibly know everything - this applies to everything not just asthma etc. Sam I have been diagnosed COPD now as well.

Chris sorry to disagree here but my OH has COPD & chronic Asthma.

He is past Seretide & now on other meds.

He worked his way throught the strengths until they had no longer beneficial effect.

There are many medications 'recomended' but each individual person is different as are the balance of medications required.

Only each Individual persons doctor can know what doseage or medication is best for any one person.

I would suggest that you show your doctor and ask their oppinion on what you have found in respect to yourself & your condition.

( Sorry if this comes across any think other than trying to be helpful but Asthma, COPD & the various medications has become my specialist subject. Been living it 24/7 for many years. )

Not only is this a nudge for those who may only come on at weekend but for those suffering COPD - quite by chance found this info on web - that Seretide 500 is the only Seretide product with the correct medication for the treatment of COPD.

Hi Chris and everyone else, I too am an asthmatic as are my 2 lads aged 19 and 21, we all take seretide in the evohalers, we used to use accuhalers but found them difficult when having a chest infection or like when I have had a couple of asthma attacks, my evohalers are 250mcg I use them 2 puffs up to 3 times daily, sometimes more if I have a chest infection, so do both my lads, we also take oral steroids for usually a week. We regularly have check ups with our asthma nurse at our local surgery, she runs an asthma clinic weekly, we can go along any time we feel we need to.
I think perhaps the 50 seretide is of no use to a chronic asthmatic and that may be why it's unwise for them to use it, or maybe it's because you'd need so many puffs of it that the aerosol gas may be unhealthy in large quantities..

Anyone who is on Combivent - this is being discontinued Feb/March and a new type of inhaler - Spiriva but in liquid form rather than the previous powder form (which did me no good at all) will be replacing it. Any one on this? I am to switch in a weeks time

Yes asthma & the meds is a very serious matter. I would always urge anyone who 's symptoms change to see the doctor or practive nurse ASAP

BUT If they change suddenly & very quickly there is only ever one option with asthma & that is....

Thanx Sam, I seem to be able to forecast rain now because I get a bit breathy then lol
But on the serious side you can never be too carefull with any medication can you.
I have noticed in my family research so many people had asthma on my Dad's side. He had an atomiser and I remember him and his brother using it so often. One of his brothers died having an asthma attack.

I tried Symbicort & it unfortunatly had the opposite effect and made me worse :(((

I was on Seretide 50 preventor 2 puffs twice a day with ventolin when I needed it. Always had symptoms and short of breath.
Changed my Doctor and now I am on Symbicort turbuhaler two times a day when I need it. Most of my breathing symptoms have gone and I have cut back on using it. Feel so much better.

I take Seretide. I have a Accuhaler & the doseage I take is 500 ( no, I haven't put too many noughts'.) I have taken various strengths before this.

Having read the leaflet with a 50 dose evohaler it actually says severe not chronic & this would possibly indicate that the 50 dose isn't strong enough ( one its own without other inhalers )for someone with severe asthma.

Patients with Severs asthma , COPD & other respiritory conditions will use several different types of inhalers & medications to acchive the optimum assistance.

IF IN DOUBT CHECK WITH YOUR PHARMACIST OR DOCTOR / ASTHMA NURSE.

My dad takes it for other issues. He's classed as Asthmatic even though it's been technically dormant for some 30+ years.

I didn't know about this though, so thanks for the info and nudging for the night owls.

My health has been disappearing down the swanee for some time - 15 months ago I did not like the cocktail I was taking - 4 inhalers - found out from chemist one was exactly the same as Ventolin! Now this - I am beginning to wonder how much of my disappearing health is due to prescription!
