Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 17 Dec 2013 04:31

Mary glad you are home safely and that you found that you were able to make a difference to those suffering hardship in DR . I am sure those youngsters were happy to have someone care about them and I can imagine you with the babies, giving out so much love and kindness to all there.

Hope your health will not get worse and your eye surgery will go well

love and hugs

tinkers, well done for plodding on, just take each day as it comes, maybe write yourself some affirmations to stick on mirrors or cupboard doors so you see them often, things like I am strong and can get through this or some of those I wrote before, What doesn't kill you makes you stronger etc. Also one that says I can be who I want to be and won't let others drag me down or I can say No, I don't have to agree all the time.

Try not to let that person who upsets you push your buttons, if they want to meet up again, just say Sorry I am too busy at the mo or make some other excuse, or just say No I would prefer not to do that.

Don't let them spoil Christmas, plan a nice day, pick out tv programmes you want to watch and let yourself be distracted by those, also the cooking of a nice meal and such. Time goes too fast as it is, so mark this special day of the year as the beginning of a new chapter in your life. Write yourself a Christmas card to you that says Today is the first day of the rest of my life, and it will be good.
Best of luck to you

I am well and truly back from Dominican republic. A surreal experience. To be in the middle of such debilitating poverty, rattled me to the core. Did we make a difference? I believe so. At the least, we showed them that someone cared. The babies were gorgeous. The street kids whom we got to know, were endearing, naughty but loveable. Their delight over a simple supper of hot dogs was poignant. broke our hearts. They all had come from Haiti after the hurricane. 2 yrs ago. Eating from rubbish bins, sleeping under bridges and trees, no life for 12 & 13 y/o's. One area we went to had had NO medical assistance, EVER. We determined that the majority of adults there had high blood pressure. Living in an open area in the mountains looks calm and peaceful, stress is there anyway. If it weren;t for the humidity I would return in a minute. They need help. Now I am back to what I thought was the real world, but is actually a life of luxury in comparison. My life has been changed. I am back, glad you are all still here. My recent heart tests weren't perfect, but a small hurdle in comparison. My eyes have been opened. Should know a date for my needed eye surgery this week. Group hug, please.

Tinkers,
There are a number of good websites that can help with eating disorders.
My daughter found this one really helpful as it covers a wide range of problems including anorexia, bulimia and over-eating

You are doing very well Michelle and it will be easier for you once Christmas is over. But why not make Christmas day special for you and your other half. No need to go over the top but enjoy each others company, watch something nice on TV and think of something special you would like to eat for your Christmas meal, sometimes little nibbles might be the answer, but all nice tasty things. If you let what happened spoil your and your OH's Christmas the other person has won really. Go on, think of something special. If it is nice Christmas day could you drive down to the coast (Lee maybe) and take your mobility scooter. Or doesn't it go in the car? I would love to be able to go down to Lee on Christmas day. That would be special to me if the weather was good. :-)

Hi Tinkers I'm pleased to read your post that things are getting a little better for you. I don't know the story of the person you say started this.
Is it someone close? A family member who you don't want to cut off altogether?
Do you think the calms are helping you?
How are the relaxation techniques? Do you find they are helping you? I have been having trouble getting to sleep so the last three nights used one or another and found myself to drop off to sleep.
Do you like doing crosswords, word search or similar? If you find it too hard to concentrate for long these are something you can easily put down, and start again later.
Walks are good too, even a short walk, give yourself a goal and do it every day. Then as you get used to it make your goal bigger. Have a set time to do it and make it your routine. Even if its just to the end of your garden where you feel safe :-)
How's your Christmas planning going? Do you have all your cards wrote out yet?

I've been having internet problems so haven't been online very much but I've been thinking about you and willing you on. Sorry to hear you have another infection - all these things do pull you down, but hang on in there and you will get better, even if it takes a little while.

I've never been in as bad a place as you but others on here have and really understand what you are going through. So try out all their suggestions, you're sure to find one or two techniques that help you along the way. And just keep reminding yourself that you have lots of cyber friends on here and lean on their support when you need it.
