if you want to talk to someone you are more than welcome to my telephone number - I suffer from clinical depression and have done so for many years now but I'm OK as long as I keep taking the tablets - I'm a good listener - let me know

In the meantime, do take your medication and make an appointment with your GP as a matter of urgency - you don't seem to be handling this well and need help - don't be afraid to ask for it <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Michelle, Sorry only just come on here and off to bed now. Please feel that you can pm me tomorrow if you want to talk.

I am sorry you are having a bad time but pleased that you seem to have tackled the panic attack. Please come and talk to somebody. Maybe if this thread goes up somebody else will be around.

Without knowing what is bothering you it is difficult to help but I hope that talking will help you. Please take your medication, not doing so is not helping. Maybe you could find help by phoning the Samaritans if you have nobody nearby to talk to.

Sending you a ((((((hug))))))) anyway.

I do hope you get the help you need soon, Gwen, it makes me so angry that help takes such a long to time to come. I am still waiting since mid June to hear about the case worker the chap I saw said I needed re my ocd. As someone said to me the other day, you didn't do anything to get the problems you have but people who are alcoholics or drug addicts get so much help offered yet they chose to start on their paths. I don't grudge anyone the help they need but wish the chances were there for everyone. I have been trying to get help over my ocd since 1994! So far I have had to find counselling for myself and waited years for that, and now having to wait again. Maybe they are waiting for me to die lol

Maximary, you take care love, hope things look up for you soon.

DIZZI glad to "hear " from you but sorry that depression has you in its grips again. So many of us can relate, I have been in a slump for weeks but not as debilitating as you sound, bless you. I do hope the psychologist will be helpful, especially hope you don't have to wait too long to see them.
Group hugs for Dizzi

Yes, it is good that it is still going, although we don't have the same people posting. Hopefully that is because they no longer have a need for the thread.

Dizzi, I hope that the psychologist helps you with the depression, but do feel that you can come on here and shout when you feel like it. Have you queried if the new med is right for you if your PD is worse? <3 <3

I'm so pleased this thread is still on the go cos we started it long long time ago now and I do think it has helped people to "come out" and talk about depression and other mental illnesses - they should not be brushed under the carpet, but talked about as with any other condiion, otherwise it is further stigmatised which is not good

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 13 Aug 2013 19:50

let's hope you get some help - and soon Dizzi - depression is an awful condition to live with, but with the correct medication it can be handled well

I know that if I wasn't on medication I would be in a sorry state

David I chuckled at your phrase "magic butter", I remember the same application to my play wounds as a child. Apparently I tucked away the phrase in my memory as I now give my grandkids "magic honey" ie Manuka honey, for sore throat complaints. With good effect I may add. My 13 y/o granddaughter still asks me for 'magic honey' though she knows the correct name now. Wonderful 'magic' formulae!

As you know Kucinta, CBT does help and my daughter is so anxious.
We may have to look for private counsellor if the NHS takes too long.

We could never have afforded the Private Healthcare that she had 4 years ago.
As a day patient (9-5) our insurer covered the £187 per day cost.
( only because she was a registered student in full time education as per our policy)

There were also a number of NHS in-patients in the clinic at the time.
Their own local health authority was paying for it!

Kucinta Report 19 Jul 2013 10:54

I'm on a complex medication regime, and couldn't manage to function without it.

Having said that, I did pay for counselling myself, as it was so difficult to get on the NHS (although I did have access to psychiatric help), and my counsellor was very keen on CBT.

Although I can no longer afford counselling, I do find that what I learnt from her about the principles of CBT does help me to with things, especially with relation to the two anxiety disorders, and to some extent manage the depression, sufficiently to enable me to continue in employment.

For me, the CBT and the medication are both necessary and valuable tools, but sometimes I find it difficult to keep implementing the CBT approach when I no longer have my counsellor to refer to.

I have just come across this thread.
Reading through it, I recognise a lot of what is being said, and wish all sufferers well.

My mum suffered from mental health issues all of her adult life, much of which was spent in phsychiatric hospitals.
I do the family research and I now see that her problems were familial.
There were a few, other members of her family with the same or similar issues.

My eldest daughter ( 26 next week) is well into recovery from an eating disorder,.
She has a good diet and takes regular exercise.

We were extremely lucky at the time, and as a registered student, by default, she qualified for Private Healthcare under a policy that we had.
She became a day patient at a well known clinic for about 4months and has never looked back.
A huge amount of her recovery process was based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

6months ago, she developed type1 diabetes which is when the panic attacks really started.
She cannot control her spiralling thoughts over her health issues and believes she may have hypochondria!

CBT should be transferable skill... but she finds it impossible to transfer it

She asked our GP to be referred for some CBT ( she no longer qualifies for private treatment)
She was assessed by a clinic and told that she would need to wait between 8 and 10 weeks to see a counsellor.
That was 12 weeks ago!
She knows that CBT will help and does not wish to take medication unless it's absolutely necessary.

She is calling the clinic today.
