The Child Support Agency came into being in 1993 so about 18 years ago. If your mother was on benefits she would have been asked about the father of any of her children.

When I worked in a local benefits office in 1977 there was a section called Liable Relatives and it was their job to try to chase for maintenance. Whichever department your mother would have dealt with there would have been letters to her.

Is there a chance that your mother would have kept any old paperwork that you could try to look at which may hold any clues?

Those premises (97 Latchmere Road) have recently been demolished and a block of flats is being erected there.

I don't know if the business has relocated.

You could try phoning or visiting the garages/car repairs in the area, and ask if anyone remembers him working for them? If there's one there that might be a family business it may be worth a try? Here's one

Hi Angel, you say your Dad lived in Lambert^ Court^ or Latchmere^ Court^ and that he owned the 'house', sorry to be pedantic but to be clear, would that be he owned the 'flat'?

Can your Nan help on any of the following? (often people's memories flow better if they are 'nudged' with possibilities....)

There is a lot of local authority property in Battersea, any idea whether it might have been a flat bought under right-to-buy in a local authority block? High rise block or not? Near major local landmarks? (the river, Clapham Junction station)? Did your Dad walk to work from your Mum's? (would suggest his work premises were unlikely to be more than say a mile from where you lived)

"The Latchmere" is a pub in Battersea, might his address have been [something] Court *near* the Latchmere (as already posted, there is no Latchmere^ Court in Battersea). Was your father a 'pub man', if so, where did he drink? (might be local to where he lived or worked).

Does your Nan know anything about his business location - industrial estate? Main road? Residential street? (small car workshops are sometimes in residential streets). Near a railway bridge, in arches under a railway bridge? (a lot of those in Battersea!). Did your father own a car? Anything special or unusual?

Your Dad's daughter Hayley would have been just school age when your Dad left, any idea where she started school?

Where was the family holiday that your Dad took you on? Any chance of identifying the hotel, guest house, caravan park or whatever and tracing the booking?

^ Edited to add: Most blocks of flats named "[something] Court" in Battersea are ex-local authority blocks. Could it be Lucas Court? Or a block in Chatfield (sounds like "Latchmere") Road - Sherwood Court, Mendip Court?

There's no Latchmere/Lambert Court in Battersea. Options are Latchmere Road, Street or Passage.

Are you able to visit Battersea Library? Perhaps you could view old electoral rolls for those streets to find his name.
