Thank you for all you recent info most of it confirmed, but the occasional use of an alternate surname certainly 'spices up the game'.
I have a copy of the marriage certificate of Joe Ben Wilcock and Annie Lees dated 9th April 1882 in the Parish of St Luke PRESTON.

It is interesting on this certificate to see that the Grooms Father is William 'Wilcock'. He would have a lifetimes experience of the embarrasment of using two surnames,
i think that this may be a 'facesaver' to use a term that you used earlier.
"Could Joe Ben have given this name in Williams absence ? HE knew his true surname at birth but he would have known William (Senior ) as his father for 20 years, this of course is speculation on my part.
Many thanks Geoff.

Reggie, thank you for all the info that you have sent to which I have failed to reply. Everything that i have been able to verify is absolutely correct, and 1 or 2 'holes' have been filled.
I am now getting to understand the system a little better and will try to reply promptly her-after.
geoff.

Once again, thank you for bearing with me.
To the best of my knowledge there is no dispute that William Senior 1831 was the father of all other children in his family, I think he had 4 children by his first wife.
I believe that he married Esther Wilcock on 2 January 1862 (not confirmed) who brought Joe Ben Wilcock ( father not named) into the Senior family, they proceeded to have 8or 9 children together.
My grandfather Joe Ben was buried in Royston nor Barnsley with the name Joe Ben Wilcock on the brass plaque on his coffin. I presume he was never officially adopted into the Senior family.
He was known all his life and employed on the railway as Joe Ben Senior.
Thanks for your help so far ,
Geoff Wilcock.

Use freebmd to find info...........................

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

I've given you names...................look for them in 'search all trees'

And, if you can find a marriage for Esther and William, you have access to resources that I don't

Some comment on what I've posted would not go amiss

BTW....the reference to a 'father' on Joe Ben's marriage is clearly a face-saver - whoever he was, I doubt that his surname was Wilcock.

Geoffrey Report 14 Sep 2013 08:52

I am a novice at this site,I will, with a little forbearance master it.
The Joe ben in the above tree was the son of Esther 1839 but William is not mentioned on Joebens Birth certificate, William and Esther married some time later.
At the time of Joe bens birth Esther was a spinster and William had recently lost his first wife.
Joe ben was buried as Joe Ben Wilcock.
I am seeking to trace descendants of Seniors Born after 1863.
Hope you get this message Geoff.
