So glad to hear you have made contact in USA, do hope you, at the very least, get to piece some of Nora's life together and maybe get some answers......

Very best of luck

Hi Louise,

Thanks for the PM with your e-mail address, I'm just posting this so other helpers know I've sent a message with your contact details to Margie Covey - just hope she is still an active member of ancestry.

Not sure which granddaughter you've contacted, because it looks like AC had other grandchildren from his previous marriages - you need to tread carefully, (and you obviously don't need me to tell you) but you'll only find out more with their co-operation.

Let me know if Margie or her husband Bill gets in touch, otherwise we'll go back to the search for other avenue to try.

all the best
Flip

What an emotional day you've had. Hope you are OK <3

If the granddaughter can fill you in on Nora's life and possibly put you in touch with any other children, you may at least be able to 'paint a picture' of her.

It may be that, after the initial contact, both sides find that they don't have much in common that's assuming that they knew Nora had children in England.

One chapter in your life has closed. Time to move on <3

You'll need to register with Mundia first, but if you do - this is the link to Margie's tree (she was JC's youngest sister born in 1936)

Just seen your post, most of our info has come from ancestry - but mundia.com is it's sister site. You have to register, but it's free - however it does not allow you to contact tree owners.

Flip Report 26 Jan 2014 14:38

Louise, if you want me to try to contact Margie through ancestry to see if she knows anything more on the half sister let me know. You'd need to send me a PM with your e-mail address which I can pass on, but I've no idea if she is still an active member.

I would think the half sister was younger than John, and born in California - as they were still there when John's SSN was issued in 1973.

Margie's notes say AC was a gunny-sgt in the marines for 20 years (served 2 tours in vietnam), so maybe they went to Oklahoma when he left.

Please could you tell me what site you got all this info from.Tried to get on Mundia but could not get on to it.

Louise, it's very sad you didn't manage to find her, but at least you have some closure ........ although not much comfort.

I'm afraid Mistycat is probably right about your half brother, if you click this link, I'm pretty sure it's him - and Margie Covey also has a death for John, but not the details:

Full name was John Michael Phelps

There is another tree on Ancestry for AC (Buddy) Phelps...spouse Nora (no info)

It has a son John Phelps but only gives place of his death, no dates.....

Mangum, Greer, Oklahoma, United States, same as AC and Nora.

Owner of tree....LarryAdams475787

Hey fantastic work done Flip and Det, well done you two.

Although you did feel she would have died, must be good to be able to fill in some blanks Louise....

I think the daughter D referred to was from a previous marriage for J C Phelps. There is another tree on ancestry, the tree owner is the youngest sister of JC, she lists 3 marriages for him - the third to Nora x - and she has 2 children for the couple, son and daughter.

Don't know if she is still active on ancestry but the name is Margie Covey, of Odessa Texas.

Added a 1942 obituary states Margie's husband is Bill Covey.

In honesty I thought she may have died, but would like to know of any half brothers or sisters.

Oh bother didn't notice that.

Sorry for you loss Louise. :-(

It still might be worth contacting the tree owner to see if they are related.
Googling the details she shows for her husband brings up this. The tree does pose some questions which shouldn't be aired in public.

No mention of a wife.

Added- If the Mundia route doesn't get a reply, you could contact the funeral directors and see it they will pass on a message
