Hi I just wondered if there were any other people out there with the name above? Likely living in the south of England. I'm from Gloucestershire and this branch of the prodgers were evacuated during the war. I don't know anything about family and wondered if i had any living relatives down in Eastbourne?

Any help most grateful.

If you google Prodger Eastbourne 192.com you will see there are a few

or if you search on the electoral rolls on this site by putting in Prodger Eastbourne there are 45 results

Also if you search for the name on freebmd there have been Prodgers born in Eastbourne since the records began in the 1830s

Have you searched for your family in the trees on this site?

Thanks Jax,

I'll have a look. Lots of Prodgers down in eastbourne but I guess it's the Croydon Prodgers who would be most closely related to me.

Not sure whether you mean the place called Croydon....if so why mention Eastbourne?

Or the fact that Croydon looks to be your middle name?

only Croydon/Prodger marriage I can see is this one

CROYDON Sarah Elizabeth Kingston 2a 269 Scan available - click to view
Prodger Samuel Kingston 2a 269 Scan available - click to view

A few births for others with the middle name of Croydon who I would assume wer decended from that couple?

Out of those 3 sons it looks like

Daniel married but No children??

Samuel had 2 daughters

Albert had quite a few children.....which you would probably know about as he was the one who moved from Eastbourne to Gloucestershire during WW2

JoonieCloonie Report 5 Apr 2014 00:00

bit of a coincidence here

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1338859

someone last week looking for info about Samuel Prodger 1841

in that thread it's mentioned that someone has corrected the name from PROOGEA as it was mistranscribed in the 1851 census at Ancestry

the person who made that correction can be contacted through that system

Samuel Prodger 1841 is shown in that person's tree here

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/19862301/family?cfpid=19294872545&selnode=1

but if you don't have Ancestry access you can join www.mundia.com for free and search for Samuel Prodger 1841 and contact the same tree owner there (username initials mk212)

the tree traces to living grandchildren of Harry 1876 from the list posted by jax

jax

jax Report 5 Apr 2014 00:19

I saw that tree Joonie.....but the tree owner didn't look to be a direct descendant

No Prodger's in her direct line

Thanks for all the help.

I think that member is a cousin of mine who has coincidentally started her own search at the same time as me. I have already been in contact with her about this and shared lots of useful information.

Many thanks

James

Very odd that two people would be searching for the same family within days of each other

Had I known it would have saved me looking up the info as your first posting wasn't exactly clear until I went searching for your birth

James

I think I messaged you on facebook. I am Samuel Croydon Prodgers grandson. I am the son of Jean Rosemary Smith (nee Prodger). My Mum had a Stroke in June 2014 and died on 17 Oct 2014. In May 2014 I was home and we sat at home going through old photos. I have photos of Harry Croydon Prodger, Harry's note book and jottings, The Croydon Prodger family bible and a wedding certificate. I am most Rosina Albina since she is something of an unknown. We know she came from West Ham. She was a Cor blimee woman, in the words of Samuel Prodger. We have an address in the East End and that is it. We not know her origins. Until May 2014 I never even knew that I had a Great Uncle called Albert who was evacuated with his 7 children to Eastbourne. If you join the Eastbourne Vanished Shops facebook group they have a photo of the evacuees at the Town Hall.

Harvey as it's over 18 months later and James has not been active on the site since this thread, it seems, you would do best to click on his name and send a private message

no email notifications of replies in threads are sent (unless a poster has clicked 'Watch This' on the thread, which you may want to do)

email notification is sent of private messages, which the person contacted will receive if they still have their current email address in their account at this website

good luck :-)

Thanks for the info Joonie Cloonie

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 1 Dec 2015 17:52

meanwhile Harvey since who can resist

you have the marriage?

Marriages Mar 1900
Longhurst Roseina Albina Battle 2b 62
Prodger Harry Croydon Battle 2b 62

(trick was to search for Harry Croydon marrying Ros* since there were so many variants on Ros* names and they varied their own names so much, e.g. Ros(e)anna = Rose Hannah, and many more)

Deaths Mar 1935
Prodger Rosina A 54 Eastbourne 2b 133

Births Dec 1880
Longhurst Rosina Albina W. Ham 4a 66

if you have her and Harry's marriage certificate it should give her father's name

in 1911 with Harry her place of birth is given as Canning Town so this is her in 1891 with her family

Name: Rosey Longhurst
Age: 10
Estimated birth year: abt 1881
Relation: Daughter
Father's name: William Longhurst
Mother's name: Ann Longhurst
Gender: Female
Where born: Canning Toiwn, Essex, England
Civil Parish: Bromley St Leonard
Town: London City
County/Island: London
Registration district: Poplar
William Longhurst 30 bricklayer's labourer, born Hastings
Ann Longhurst 36 born Walworth
Rosey Longhurst 10
Albert Longhurst 6
Lizzie Longhurst 4
Eliza Longhurst 2
William Longhurst 7/12

hope that helps :-)

(I'll PM Harvey if he doesn't see this)

edit - James and one other person have her in their family trees at this site
