We seem to have lost Brigget for the moment.

But I think the only way to find her Irish ancestry is by getting a copy of her mother's Irish birth certificate. We can't find her mother on the 1911 census, so don't have her parents to work on. Don't know about you Prickles, but I've checked 1911 census for both England and Ireland with no luck.

I think we have both been on the same wave length Flip.

I checked the Irish 1911 too,........no luck though!

Is this odd that you cant find any birth record in any census, or is that normal sometimes?

Where would I get a copy of My mothers birth certificate?

Flip

Flip Report 29 Sep 2014 05:40

Hi Brigette, sorry my post was rather confusing I was referring to your grandmother not your mother.

It's your grandmother (Sarah Coulter) we can't find on the 1911 census to check who her parents were - so without her birth certificate it would be virtually impossible to go back any further with her. It's not unusual not to be able to find someone on a census - especially when they could be anywhere.

We can't find a birth registration for Eileen - but I think this is because they are not online for Belfast for that time period. I believe the irish records office conduct searches, but they charge for this.

Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge of Ireland records can point you in the right direction for getting certificates.

Good news on your other search, good luck to you both.

I think the problem we have, we don't know Sarah's parents or her fathers occupation. My ancestors, from around the same time or slightly earlier, moved between ship-yards for work - with children born England, Ireland and Scotland. Southampton is a port as is Belfast - so Sarah could have been in Scotland in 1911, which is only available on Scotland's People.

Prickles, do you know whether Ancestry or FMP (or another site) has the bmd for Northern Ireland in 1939? I can't find any births registered there on either site.

PricklyHolly Report 29 Sep 2014 19:59

Hi Flip

I did some googling but didn't come up with anything. :-(

It would be interesting to know who lived at 64 Isoline Street....1935---1939

Perhaps if/when Brigette hears back from members who have members of this family in their tree, they might be able to give her information regarding Sarah Johnston Coulter.

It is also frustrating with William Frederick Tynan senior.

I think the only way to go would be to purchase a copy of the marriage cert, in the hope that it gives some clues.

It has been a very enjoyable search though!

Prickles.

:-)

Flip Report 29 Sep 2014 21:46

Yes it has been interesting, but I doubt if the marriage cert will reveal much - I really doubt he knew his parentage. Only appears on 1881 census as a boy in the navy, then again in 1901. Not really much to go on. Maybe the naval record would reveal more - although I doubt it.
