Do you know if his parents moved to London shortly after his birth, or did they stay in Beeston for many years before moving to Poplar or Battersea?

Have you looked to see if any of them are in anyone's tree on here, and tried to make contact with the tree owner?

I think her surname was Torville:
Marriages Mar 1937
Oliver Harry Torville Basford 7b 265
Torville Elsie Oliver Basford 7b 265

that's correct Patchem - Kevin has given that info - he's having difficulty negotiating the site :-)

patchem Report 20 Oct 2014 21:16

Sorry, Ann.

Where did Kevin say that John stayed in Beeston or moved with his parents?

I copied over the marriage as Kevin had the surname as Torvill, not Torville.

Kevin,

Do you know if your uncle married - when were you last in contact with him?

If you have already contacted Ann, then you have read her post and so managed to return to here. So all you need to do is to reply in the box below, not click on the poster's name.

Thank-you

AnnCardiff Report 20 Oct 2014 21:47

I meant the Harry and Elsie bit :-)

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Oct 2014 00:33

I assume someone has told Kevin that Battersea and Poplar are areas in London .

............... and therefore he could look on www.freebmd.org.uk to see if his uncle married, or if there were more children to his parents, using London as a reference point.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Oct 2014 00:37

there was a daughter (ie sibling to John) born before the war in Basford

Incidentally Basford is the Registration district that includes the town or suburb of Beeston ....................

so Kevin was quite correct in saying his uncle was born in Beeston :-)

Information re a tree on ancestry sent to Kevin

jax Report 21 Oct 2014 01:09

Do you know for a fact that Harry and Elsie lived in London?

There is a birth and death of a Harry Oliver born 1898 died 1953 Basford

or another born 1906 Basford who died 1985 Nottingham

If you have Elsies death wrong could Harrys be wrong too?

Kevin

you were given infomation on that previous thread that a John Oliver, rght birth date and area, has a tree on this site also.

Did you Search Trees, and attempt to contact him???

Go to Search above

Click on Search

then Search All Trees

enter one of your grandparents names, and that should bring up John's tree

Dear Patchem
sorry it has taken so long to get back on the site -- I am not sure if John has ever married -- Every thing that I have on john I have shared . the information that I have on my grandmother Elsie Oliver 9 nee Torvill 0 is that she had died in Battersea , so I thought that maybe he had moved there but no information had come up , so I am back at square one :(

jax

jax Report 14 Nov 2014 17:22

Your grandmother died in Basford as posted above..... Which is Nottingham

Purchase the marriage cert to find out how old Harry was then you may find the correct death..... Probably one in Nottinghamshire

Have you read anything that Sylvia and I have posted?

Have you by any chance sent a message to john Oliver 1946 Nottingham? Who has a tree on here

Which I told you about on Facebook back in April

Kevin
