Possible birth in 1948.

Where did Thomas die as I'm not seeing his death under Thomas H Carter?

Using freebmd, the marriage shows in 1941, Thomas has an initial H

Using the same free site, and inputting the surname and mothers maiden name under births, there is a possible 1948 birth in Dover RD

1948 birth may be connected to a 1946 marriage

Hi rose he is supposed to be buried at calne in wiltshire . I went to the cemetery and could not find anything. Thomas Henry Carter was born in 1896 and married marion Sewter in 1926 then viola challenger in 1941. He was divorced from marion in 1941 and married the same year to viola. i was told he was buried in Calne . I have no evidence of it.

The only Thomas Carter b 1896, d 1957, died in the Frome, Somerset RD

Viola's death would appear to be in the Mendip, Somerset RD

I can't see a probate for him, but using this site

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk

there is a possible probate for Viola. You can obtain the will through that site and it may mention family.

Hi yes there is a child Bernard Carter born in 1939 . I was trying to find out if he had a child with viola. Bernard Carter never met Thomas Carter as he disappeared.

Many thanks how does one go about trying to find where he would be buried I assume in Frome

greyghost Report 2 Aug 2015 23:05

Frome is the registration district and so covers a multitude of places (it also was abolished in 1974 and became Mendip RD which is where Viola's death was registered).

Use freebmd to look up the death, click on Frome and it will show you the places covered.

By getting the death certificate, you would see exactly where he died (same for Viola) and could then google churches/cemetery/crematoria/funeral directors in the area.

You could also try local papers for obituaries.

They are not registered on https://www.deceasedonline.com

Are you sure Thomas was Bernard's father? They were married for over 12 years before he was born and I see Marian also remarried as soon as the divorce came through.

He may not have been buried.

As already suggested, Jane, get a copy of Violet's death cert

Are you 100% certain that the 1957 death is for the right person? There is no second initial

Where was Thomas born? Who were his parents?

BTW, Rose, my parents had been married for 11 years before I was born...............

a March birth reg in Malmsbury Wilts could tie for death age.

Also unless there is a headstone or marker you wouldnt be able to tell if Thomas was buried anywhere just by walking around. ,,,make inquiries at Wiltshire County Council they hold the burial registers for all of them.

Calne,Chippenham and Malmsbury have about a 20 mile radious from each other--

Hi thanks for looking again. I am not 100 per cent sure of Thomas Henry Carter death. He was born in lea 22 jan 1896 father was alfred Carter and mother fanny Carter maiden name Pearce. Married in 1926 to marion sewter in Mitford Norfolk . My dad was born in 1939 Bernard carter. Dad never saw him we know nothing of him. Marion remarried in 1941 to Arthur Tidd and I assume Thomas Carter remarried also in 1941 to viola challenger in Chippenham. Either could be his father I guess .

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 3 Aug 2015 13:01

So you have no documentary evidence that the marriage in 1941 was for Marian's ex?

As Bernard's birth was registered with the name Carter, I think it a touch unkind to sully Marian's reputation.

...................unless there was a strong resemblance between Bernard and Mr Tidd. ;-)

No Tidd/Sewter births on freebmd

Hardly surprising, as Marian was born in 1900
