Cheers! Thanks to all.

I have just had an email from Evan Eldridge, son of Jeffrey. He says Jeffrey although still alive is unable to answer, but June his sister would like my address to write!

I will send my a/d today and hope to get a letter from her. I really want to know how the family got on when they arrived in WA and what has happened since.

Wow! Alison

Alison Report 14 Jun 2018 17:34

Yes, that's a thought. However, Jeffrey visited my mother in the 1980s and I met him again briefly, so he should certainly know who I am.

But I am hoping they will know something of how they came to be where they are, and about their parents' story. Our mother really didn't tell us very much, although she was exchanging letters with their mother.

My sister is in the process of looking through old papers which may have more detail or even existing letters from Australia.... she never met them, as she wasn't born when they left!

Thanks again, Alison

PS - I wish I had started this years ago now, but I have mostly been following up other family emigrants who left for various other countries in all directions around 1900....

As they are both in their 80’s, include some sort of phrase about showing the letter to a younger family member. Otherwise they may think it’s a scam!

Alison Report 14 Jun 2018 10:21

Thanks to both of you.
I have asked on a granny's forum here about the best way to go, found someone here who had had the same problem - and will send each a letter to WA with my email address...
Hopefully - Alison

You mean your post? Possibly an archived version. However, you didn't give the person's first names, so that should be OK ;-)

The latest ER are NOT on line. You could try asking the Librarian Service to check the first names of the person you think you've found. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Its a completely free service.

Alison Report 11 Jun 2018 16:57

Oh dear, that's a bad mistake. Apologies and the details are deleted.
Must be the heatwave here!
.....However, it is already online?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 11 Jun 2018 15:39

Alison, the recent ER are not online. Valerie has approached the Ask a Librarian for Jeffrey’s entry.
Unless they can only be accessed by WA residents - that’s where Valerie lives - there’s no harm sending an email yourself about June’s.

As a point of etiquette & to protect people’s privacy, we don’t post personal info about living people on these open boards. Perhaps you could edit your post to remove the full address & the phone number?

Assuming Valerie is given Jeffrey’s latest address on the ER, she’ll send it to you by PM.

Valerie - I have found a Mrs J Anderson in the white pages:

But I'm stuck on looking at the electoral rolls, some are not open to me, and can one get the current records?

Hi Alison ....(I've just come 'on board') 'yes' I recommend the 'Ask a Librarian' service provided by the 'West Aus State Library' (on-line).

So ...I have just sent in a request for current address for 'Jeffrey Theordore' ..will p.m. you when it arrives.

Our 'White Pages' show only one initial - so need to check full name on electoral roll.

Tilden's military records would be with the MOD. Should you be so inclined, you could order a copy for £30. Don't worry about not having a service no. as you already have his DOB. They could take a number of months to arrive.

If Connie were alive, she'd be approaching her 120th birthday :-D :-D

Re the business link for Jeffrey. As it became inactive in 2003, could he have retired?
Although hopefully he is living, he'd now be aged 84. Similarly June will be about 86. Even when the people are our contemporaries, we do sometimes have to 'do the math'.

As you have a number of addresses, either from ER or correspondence, the Ask the Librarian might be able to trace them forward.

It seem's June's husband has also died
Summary Of Record Information

Karrakatta Cremation
Aged (Years) 82 Date of Death 17/07/2011

Try contacting the cemetery http://www.mcb.wa.gov.au/
They might be willing to give you the name of the funeral director who could facilitate contact with the person who arranged the funeral.

There a couple of entries for a J C Anderson on the whitepages, although I've no idea where the places are in relation to Karrakatta/Dianella suburb.
Might the Librarian service tell you if the J C's were June Constance??

PPS sorry to hear that Connie is no longer alive....

Alison Report 10 Jun 2018 12:06

PS - Tilden/Theo was in the forces, became Lt, but I only have a record from the Gazette, and of course they never said where.... Alison

Alison Report 10 Jun 2018 12:04

Great! :-)
I didn't know about Theo being a special trainee in Slough, although I have found lots of electoral roll records later in Australia and I knew he was a railway engineer.
I will add this to his life file.

And although I have lots of information about Wales, the 1939 records weren't available when I was doing that! I can add this in the right places too.

And I will try the other contacts.

Many thanks - Alison Back later....

Valerie might suggest you contact the Ask a Librarian service - hyperlink on this page
http://www.slwa.wa.gov.au/contact-us

Assuming they are permitted under their privacy laws, they could look up Jeffery's entry on the current ER.

If they have access to the business record refered to in
https://abr.business.gov.au/AbnHistory/View/63820336048
they might be able to release the address.

Possibly Constance living with her parents - the closed records are likely to be June & Jeffrey. No sign of Tilden, unless he was in the Forces?
