Why are you adding comments to a two year old thread?

brummie46 Report 9 Jan 2013 15:09

please add me to list.
Must have missed the original posting regarding free look ups.

I agree with what has been said already and think it would be the right thing to do as Genes have made millions out of people like us, and now feel they should repay us.

Jacki

Have you read this thread through properly.

Hardly think the original problem is relevant now.

Thanks jax. From the posts, and also from an email I had from GR support I now understand fully HOW to do it. My only remaining snag is that I can't open my Family Tree - still waiting for advice from GR Support!

Welcome to the boards Raymond

If you missed out on the freebie that never happened....I would'nt worry to much about it now....been long forgotten.

Cannot help with the Gedcom thing but you may want to take a look on the suggestions page, sometimes it is mentioned there

This may help?

Why bring up a two year old thread

I agree with almost every comment made but would add that as I am in contact with GR customer services about the fact that I cannot access my family tree AT ALL, and, presumably because I am already a subscriber, I wasn't in any way madde aware that there WAS a freeview session!
Perhaps My view is rather a jaundiced one, but it seems to me that in the past decade the various genealogy research sites have simply 'jumped on the bandwagon' they purport to offer a low-cost service which is both of poor quality and biased towards making profits and against the interests of the users.
I would like to retrieve all thedata entered in my GR 'file' and remove it (in Gedcom format) for use elsewhere; if anyone knows how to do this would they please let me know - expecting GR's people to tell me seems just a pipe-dream!

So, a few people missed out on something free........if that's the worst thing that happens to them, they are incredibly fortunate

Graeme certainly likes a lot of space!

I was a little sceptical after the problems when FMP crashed when England played & when the 1901 census came available, I was proved right, but was disappointed and gave up as I wasn’t getting any where.

I couldn't get on either - please add me to the list too.

We were to go out on NYE and I especially arranged it for later so that I could go on GR first - Could have gone out earlier as it turned out.

I agree that free credits would be better and could be used at a time to suit the individual.

I agree with everyone it would be nice as long as this time it works? I sat here for 2 hours & i was ready to throw my computer out of the window.

As I was away for New Year, only got back last night, this is the first time I've been on this year.
Add my name to the campaign as a similar thing happened when they had a couple of hours free veiwing one afternoon, half the time it was just frozen with the maintanance notice.

Most of the people that volunteer to help do not use the GR records anyway. I was online NYE and had no interest in trying to look up anything on here as I can find it a lot easier on FMP or ance*try.
